One of the ingredients used in Sun Kissed Balm is Bergamot (Citrus Bergamia) Essential Oil. It requires favourable temperatures, and whilst grown in various parts of the world, it is cultivated in concentrated areas of Italy's Reggio Calabria. The fruit is vibrant green in colour and is a cross between of the sweetness and bitterness of both an orange and lemon. The peel of the fruit is where the oil is extracted from, making medicine, predominately to treat fevers, fight parasites and bring relief to sore throats.
Bergamot has some wonderful benefits - it's antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and anti-infectious. It can lift your mood and aid your digestive sytem if the natural juice is added to your warm water or tea. Some of the other wonderful benefits of using Bergamot, (which includes extracting actual juice from the fruit vs consumption of Essential Oils:
- Boost your skin's appearance and health;
- It can fight off and prevent infections;
- Lift your mood, calm stress & anxiety together with relieve depression;
- Lower blood pressure & reduce pain;
- Taken in warm water or with herbal or Earl Grey teas, it can assist digestion, help lower cholesterol; and
- Used in water, it can assist with oral health concerns.
Warnings about Bergamot essential oil is that it can create phototoxic reactions. This means that your skin can become sensitive to the sun, requiring you to be cautious when using it. I always suggest applying certain products containing Bergamot at night time only to prevent this from happening. These particular Products are Sun Kissed Balm for Sunspots, Discolouration, Magic Serum for Acne and Just Soothing for Eczema.
Always be sure to wear sunscreen and sunblock when you're out in the sunshine. Refer to the latest blog about the scary ingredients contained in well-known brands. And be careful not to use too much with your children as it can cause side effects.
Note: Please note, I don't suggest ingesting Essential Oils from any brand. It should be provided by a Clinic Aromatherapist who will use a different grade of Essential Oil for internal consumption.
