How Women Can Rock Working Together

How Women Can Rock Working Together

This month in Zurich, I have had the privilege of connecting with amazing groups of Women. Some of these Mums are trying their hand at being Entrepreneurs, working from home around their kids. Others are juggling between part time jobs and their business. I love supporting these start-up businesses, investing in them, promoting their pages, as I believe in sharing the love with others. It is much better to encourage and support a small business. A shout out to You – SunStyleFiles for your Blog after using Essentially Lili Products; Trees & Sun for your Handmade work; Spiritedchild for your Beeswax Wraps; Jo’s English Playgroup for promoting the products; Eaucapi for the All-Natural Hair Products; and more.

With another Awesome Mum’s Group, we have talked about what we are passionate about and what we need to get to the next level, offering what we are good at for helping the others reach their own business goals. It’s a lovely change from those types of women who have nothing better to do than to pull down, gossip about, isolate or bully those that don’t fit their mold. To those I say, ‘At least have the courage to step outside of your own comfort zone before throwing criticism at someone who has the guts to try!’

I am always pleasantly surprised when someone reaches out to help another. Introducing you to someone who is in a higher position, who is well-connected, might be an influencer, a shop-owner or even a CEO. I love saying, ‘You never know where the doors for your opportunities are, so keep knocking until the right ones open.’To those of you here who have been encouraging networkers, connecters and have assisted the opportunities to come, I send you many thanks for being the kind of person you are. This place needs more people like You!

Getting three diverse women together for the Beauty Day Event was one that seemed relatively easy enough. The owner of Lotus Natural Spa offered her premises in Wadenswil and asked Fingers & Toes and myself at Essentially Lili to join forces. How hard could it be, right?

A little bit of joint advertising, asking customers to come along for the Event to be pampered on a lovely Saturday afternoon, the bookings began to come through. In no time, the appointment slots were filled! The fun task of getting prepared for the event with products, Prosecco & nibbles and offers.

The Day of the Event, we set up quickly at Lotus Natural Spa. We gave each other space to work, to meet & greet customers, to chat privately, to have their pampering sessions down. It was lovely seeing women arrive, introduce themselves and feel confident enough to come and speak about their skincare concerns. There’s nothing nicer than wearing the colour red as a sign of Confidence & Well-Being, when I once loathed it on my irritated skin.

Sometimes all we need is to speak with someone who has already been on that hard journey; who has endured & persisted; has had high and low moments; who can empathise, sympathise and encourage you along your path. That is why I offer the Consultation sessions: to help speed along this process of what’s been tried, tested and what works if you’re willing to persevere.

You can also request to join the various groups I have set up: Essentially Lili  Q&A: Taking Care of Your Skin and Essentially Lili Nutrition & Well Being. Here you can ask your questions, participate in discussions and seek / share resolutions.  I share not only what I have studied with the school in London about Nutrition and the Body, but what the other experts write too.You can also check out the previous Blogs regarding the Products, Essential Oils, their Benefits, Managing Stress, Raiding Your Fridge and some funny ones too.

New Beginnings & Overcoming Stress

New School Year 2017

New Beginnings & Overcoming Stress

New Beginnings can be exciting and stressful at the same time.Being open minded towards dealing with stress is part of the resolution!

New beginnings can be quite overwhelming especially if you are concerned about what adventure is about to commence. Whether it is the expansion of your family with the addition of a little one, moving house to a new town or country, starting a new school, or commencing a new job. There is a mix of emotions and feelings, from excitement to nervousness, all which can play havoc in our minds and lives.

When we bring home our newborn babies and try to fit very quickly into the role of ‘super mum/dad/parent’, we soon realise that there is only so much we can do around the needs of our infants. Sleep deprivation makes us parents exhausted and sometimes cranky or grumpy. It’s not that we mean to be unpleasant – it’s just that we are not coping well with trying to make a perfect environment.

One of the first things to give way during times of stress is usually our sleep. Have you ever woke up in the middle of the night having a panic or anxiety attack? These attacks consume your energy as they keep your adrenalin pumping when you should be resting instead.

Whilst living in Zurich, we moved apartments from a lovely international community to another location. It meant our child changed school and was having to start all over with trying to fit in again. She was the target of bullies, getting picked on by kids who were taller than me. We notice the personality change, the not wanting to go to school, fussing over what to wear and pretending to feel ill, all so that she wouldn’t have to go to school. Has that happened to you and your child? If so, more than likely there is something else going on at the school, and it’s worth being present to see for yourself, which is what I did.

It was during this period of time I was making my blends for Congestion with the Kids Breathe Easy Concentrate and Breathe Easier Concentrate , as well as the Blissful Minds for headaches which comes in Concentrated form as well as Inhaler.

I decided to make my child her own blend of Pick Me Up to help relax and clear her head when overcome with Anxiety. She kept her inhaler in her pencil case so that she always had it with her. Containing Cedarwood, Frankincense and Lavender these Essential Oils help relieve her mind when inhaled through the deep breathing technique. For Adults, the ingredients included Vetiver which is stronger for calming and relaxing our nerves when they get stressed.

This year for us has been one with many challenges. We faced a whole lot of uncertainty with our young family and future plans. We all tried to keep a level of normality at home for the sake of our kids. But we had moments of epic failure as the stress levels became too much for all of us to bare at times. For us we had the stress of finding a new place to live in a short space of time, trying to keep the kids motivated at school whilst dealing with the main factors for our anxiety.

When we found the place to live, we packed and moved as quickly as possible, whilst continuing to keep in touch with customers and their needs. I sometimes think how did we manage with such little support and help? Besides adrenalin and our parental instincts to protect our loved ones, we keep pushing on til it was all done.

Friendships can also become estranged during stressful times.More so if there is little understanding between friends about what is really going on in the life of the other person. I remember a wise person saying, ‘Unless you walk in the shoes of the person who is going through their crisis, you should never judge them.’ The reality is true, for it is only when you find out what their journey is about, will you understand the crisis they are enduring and the stress they are trying to overcome.

During our periods of stress and anxiety, I was unable to focus on anything other than making products for my customers. Studies stopped for a period of time, until I began working again in July. It was during my studies on Stress Management that I wished I had read the course material to help me deal with our periods of anxiety. Whilst reading my materials, I performed the breathing, visualising and calming techniques which relaxed me so much I almost fell asleep. This form of relaxing the body completely is extremely powerful and it gave me the energy to complete the next parts of my Diploma courses.

I remember going to dinner with some mum friends of mine who just kept asking ‘What are you going to do?’ And all I could say was ‘I don’t know, yet’. Feels like a lifetime ago but one thing I can say is that we eventually got through that period of time, unscathed.

Stress is always part of our lives, despite trying our best to be the positive energy for our family and others around us. Sometimes we have to take ‘stock’ of what’s beyond our control, what is really worth losing sleep over and what isn’t. But most of all, is having that person or group of friends who keep you grounded, focused, encouraged and make you feel supported when things are not going as planned. Often that is what we need most – an encouraging word and a hug from a friend or loved one.

I have been fortunate these past few months to have those few who just saw I wasn’t ok and reached out to me. For them, I’m really grateful and hope that I am always there for them in return.

The Festive Season

The Festive Season

This picture was taken in 2012 at Burj Khalifa, Dubai, UAE.The hanging decorative butterflies look like snowflakes!

The Festive Season is about being amongst family and friends, sharing, giving, loving, laughing, relaxing and taking time out to appreciate what is important!

We love the Festive Season for all that it represents. For some, it’s about celebrating their religious beliefs. For others, it’s being amongst family and friends:- sharing, giving, loving, laughing, relaxing and taking time out to appreciate what is important in life.

For us, we have spent many years abroad and away from our loved ones.

When we first married in Jan 2004, I moved to be with my husband in Dubai, where he was already working. I remember feeling out of place as the newlywed trying to fit in, get a job and make new friends.

There was an Expat Mums group that I asked to join, despite not having a child! I was invited to attend a meeting with this group of ladies, which later changed their name to include women like me who had no little ones at home or school.

Here I met two remarkable women who embraced and accepted me into their family circle and have been our friends ever since. Knowing we had no family in Dubai and not wanting us to be alone, they invited us to be part of their family Christmases and showed us what loving, sharing, laughing, acceptance was all about. We still talk about that 2004 Christmas in Dubai as though it was yesterday, only now their kids are all grown up!!

We meet when we can, whether in the UK over the summer break, or in Dubai on our way back from visiting family in Australia. We feel quite priviliged to have shared many wonderful memories together since that time with all of our families.

Today, we reflect on the year 2016. It has been a year of loss and sadness, failures, triumphs and sucesses. With hindsight we wonder what we would have done differently or better with our choices. We look at the friendships we have made and lost along the way and wonder why they are no longer. Some of these friendships were only meant to teach us something about ourselves, whilst others remained for a season. Some have been true relationships that have withstood the test of time and distance. We hope to learn from these chapters in our lives, as our experiences enrich and teach us how to become better and more decent people.

We look at our children and are grateful that they safe and in good health, able to enjoy the freedoms of where they live. We often take these subtle things for granted when in fact, we should be grateful and happy for all that we have.

So on that note, we hope that you have been amongst loved ones, laughing, eating and enjoying eachother’s company. We hope no-one has spent the festive season alone.

At Essentially Lili we wish 2017 brings you success, happiness, health, love, peace, joy and the desires of your heart.

Please be kind to one another irrespective of your personal beliefs and ambitions. Be mindful of those who have less or nothing as we reflect on how lucky and fortunate we are. And let’s make the world a better place for everyone… especially the next generation.

Merry Christmas And Happy New Year to you all from us at Essentially Lili x
