Kiwifruit the fury oval goodness

It might look like a potato, but tastes amazing with
super nutritional benefits making up for its appearance!

I found the comment describing Kiwifruit the fury oval goodness that looks like a potato rather funny!!

Note: This is not meant to offend lovers of Kiwis or the people from New Zealand, but more to show a humorous way of describing it, which I had never noticed before! When I asked my son if he thought the same, he had that ‘ah-ha’ moment, laughing out loud.This fruit has become his latest obsession, as he cuts it in half neatly, scooping the inner parts out with a spoon.
He loves the taste of Kiwi so much, that we’ve been buying them more regularly than usual.

Did you know that Kiwifruit, (Actinidia deliciosa ‘Hayward’) is also known as Chinese gooseberry, is native to central and eastern parts of China? The people from New Zealand began cultivating it at the beginning of the 20th Century. To avoid paying export taxes on berries, the name Chinese gooseberry was changed to Kiwifruit, as it resembles the New Zealand small native brown bird!

In 2012, Italy was the top producer of kiwis, whilst in 2018 China was responsible for half of the world’s output!! There’s more fun trivia at the end of the Blog!

The fruit grows to between 5-8 centimetres in length and grows like apples from a woody climbing shrub. The light brown fuzzy skin can also be eaten. It would be similar to eating a peach without peeling off the skin!! Ironically, the skin contains bountiful levels of fibre, antioxidants and Folate if you choose to include it when indulging in this magical fruit! The internal green or golden flesh has loads of edible black seeds.

Consumption benefits about Kiwifruit:

• The best time to consume the Kiwifruit is in the morning on an empty stomach. The fibre and minerals provided by the fruit will give your daily energy boost, whilst detoxifying your body’s system.

• It can aid digestive illnesses like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), decreasing symptoms with its anti-inflammatory properties.

• Kiwifruit has antibacterial and antimicrobial capabilities.

• Due to the high potassium, fibre and Vitamin K content, Kiwifruit can assist lowering blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease. It can also assist with reducing the symptoms linked to upper respiratory sickness.

• Kiwifruit is a dynamic antioxidant which fights free-radials.The extensive amount of nutrients are vital for our well-being.It can improve the immune system’s functionality, reducing the risk of becoming ill or becoming infected.

• It’s an excellent addition for assisting weight loss as it’s high in energy whilst being low in calories.

• In addition to this, Kiwifruit has high levels of fat-free Vitamin E, which also helps fight free-radicals and lower cholesterol.

• Kiwifruit can contribute to maintaining bone strength and growth, improving the health and vision of our eyes. The high levels of serotonin help regulate anxiety and moods, whilst assisting with providing better quality more restful sleep.

The tiny fury potato looking fruit is such a wonderful treat to add to your 5 a day. Makes a delightful contrast to fruit salads and platters too! For alternative ideas on how to Kiwifruit, see the recipes on Taste webpage: Kiwifruit Recipes.

Is Kiwi Seed Oil (Actinidia Chinensis) beneficial for our skin’s health?

There are so many wonderful benefits from using Kiwi seed oil that I’ve been happy to learn about. Here are some of the amazing attributes for our skin:

• Kiwi seed oil can be absorbed quickly into the skin as its texture is very light.

• Extremely rich with high natural levels of Vitamins C & E, potassium, magnesium, Omega 3 & 6, together with Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA), these all help improve and maintain the skin’s elasticity.

• Including the oil undiluted to weekly skincare routines can improve the condition of your overall skin.

• It can provide a gentle calm from irritating skin problems like Psoriasis and Eczema, blotches, wrinkles, open or large pores, spots or acne.

• It can be used for treating your hair whilst promoting elasticity, bounce and averting loss of moisture from the scalp.

• We need protein for maintaining our skin, muscles, bones and tendons.Collagen depends on Vitamin C, which is generously found in Kiwifruit, aiding the maintenance and boosting process.

• Kiwifruit also contains carotenoid and lutein, which is an antioxidant. These both support and safeguard our skin from UV light. Please Note:This does not mean not wearing sunscreen or protecting from harmful rays.

• Check out the Home Spa tips shared below.

Instead of comparing ‘Apples and Oranges’, let’s check out ‘Kiwi and Oranges’, which I found pleasantly surprising.They are a great addition to your family’s diet but did you know that there are higher levels of Vitamin C found in Kiwifruit than what’s found in Oranges? Here are some other Similarities:

• Both can boost your immune system, and have strong antioxidants for fighting free-radicals;

• Both aid digestion – Oranges help draw out toxins, acting as a diuretic, whilst Kiwifruit decreases digestive related illnesses with its anti-inflammatory properties;

• Both assist with lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of heart disease.

Differences between these Vitamin C fruits:

• Kiwifruit has more sugar than Oranges;

• Oranges are better for reducing pain and inflammation;

• Kiwifruit also contains Vitamin A and lutein, which helps fight ageing and free-radicals;

• Kiwifruit is great for building and maintaining our bones, reducing risk of eye disease or problems with the respiratory system.

Adding these super-fruits to meals, smoothies and the family diet ensures we get the best from both of them! How about adding them to your weekly Home Spa routine, mixed with clays or other goodies from your cupboards? Try either of the following recipes – all from home, without any preservatives or nasty ingredients!!!

Fun skincare tips to include in your weekly Home Spa routine:
• 1 Kiwifruit cut up,
• 1 tablespoon of Yoghurt
• 3 tablespoons of Oatmeal
• Mix together, gently scrub onto your face and allow to dry.
• Wash it off with warm water.
• Apply your Serum and Face Balm to treat and rehydrate your skin.

Option two:
• 1 Kiwifruit cut up,
• 1 tablespoon of Aloe Vera
• Mix together, apply to your face and neck for approximately 10-15 minutes.
• Wash it off with warm water.
• Apply your Serum and Face Balm to treat and rehydrate your skin.

Please let me know how your skin feels after trying either or both of these home spa tips!

Trivia About Kiwifruit:

The Kiwifruit was named after the bird because it has similar looking features to the brown feathers.Over 700 years ago, it was originally from China and known as Yang Tao. When the fruit was shipped to New Zealand around 1906, the fruit was renamed Chinese Gooseberry.

The fruit symbolises plentiful and a tiding of good things are coming. Ironically, the fury exterior symbolises the obstacles in your way.

Kiwifruit is a great addition for treating and maintaining healthy hair.It’s packed with the mineral Zinc, necessary for hair growth, preventing hair loss and dandruff!

Secrets of Passion Fruit

Secrets of Passion Fruit

Secrets of Passion Fruit

A delicious summer taste with benefits for your skin and overall health.

I wanted to share what gorgeous benefits Passion Fruit (Passiflora edulis and Passiflora flavicarpa) have. They are often found on cakes like pavlova, in drink combinations or part of the exotic summer fruits selection. But what is it about this tiny fruit that makes us feel happy, both inside and out?

The plant and fruit is native to South America, grown in some regions of southern Brazil, through Paraguay and northern Argentina.It’s also found in other tropical regions of the world like India, Africa, Hawaii and Australia. Historically passion fruit was used for lowering inflammation, assisting and improving digestion, together with protecting the skin. Studies today are considering that it may also protect against other inflammatory conditions such as heart-related concerns and insulin resistance.

The Passion fruits are cultivated commercially for its sweet-sour, somewhat tarty, highly aromatic and seedy fruit.
Round or oval in shape, it’s like a berry appearing yellow or dark purple when ready for picking, depending on where it’s grown.It’s regarded as a Pepo, which is a fruit with a fleshy and multiple seeded interior and a harder outer rind. Melons and Cucumbers are also regarded as Pepos.

Consumption information about Passion Fruit:

• You can indulge in all the gelatinous pulp that’s full of edible but tarty tasting seeds! Either scoop out the pulp with a spoon and place it in a bowl, or brave and eat it all without sharing!!

• The fruit can be eaten, juiced, added to other combinations of summer selections to enhance both the flavour and the aroma.

• You would need to consume six (6) passion fruits to make up one portion of your 5 a day. Whilst that’s loads of seeds to ingest, the alternative is eat ten (10) blackberries or half (½) an aubergine!!

• Passion fruit is a Superfood as it is an excellent source of Antioxidants like Vitamins C and A, contains polyphenols and carotenoid.

• It contains a decent number of Essential minerals, including magnesium, phosphorous, potassium
and calcium.

• Including Passion fruit in our diet can support bone health, physical, digestive and cardiovascular functionality.

• It can support digestion when consuming the rich in fibre seeds instead of just the juice.

• The fruit is high in fibre called pectin, which is lower in sugar compared to other fruits. It can provide necessary nutrients without causing blood sugar levels to spike too much.

(Note: If you have concerns with diabetes and insulin, please consult your Dietician Specialist before over-indulging).

For alternative ideas on how to Passion Fruits, see the recipes on Taste webpage: Passion Fruit Recipes.

How can Passion Fruit help our skin’s health?

• Passion fruit oil is great as an anti-aging ingredient due its antioxidant content, being rich in Vitamin
C and A, riboflavin and carotenoids.

• Vitamin A can protects your skin from sun damage;

• The high levels of fatty acids contained in the Passion fruit oil helps keep skin looking firm and youthful.

• The passion fruit seeds comprise of particular peptides that promote antifungal activity.

• These also encourage and stimulates the fusion and production of collagen.
Collagen rejuvenates and reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles slowing the aging process.

• The strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in Passion fruit can reduces the creation of free radicals, bacteria, pollutants or infections in our body, which can ultimately cause our skin to age.

• It promotes maintaining the skin’s health, encouraging wound healing.

• Passion fruit oil is light, is non-greasy, making it quicker for the skin to absorb.

• The non-clogging factor makes it a great moisturising addition to your beauty routine, assists skin
cell exfoliation whilst treating acne-prone skin.

Please note: If you are using Passion Flower for its relaxing and calming benefits, ensure you obtain your supply from a reputable herbal or Natural store.

In a past newsletter, whilst studying Holistic Pain Management Diploma I shared the benefits from using the Blue Passion Flower, or bluecrown passionflower (Passiflora caerulea).

This plant can grow up to 10 metres (33 ft) high, with fragrant leaves that look like an open handed palm, and magnificent looking flowers containing an array of colours like blue, white and brown. The edible orange fleshy fruit can grow up to 6 cms, can be somewhat bland in taste. The part of the plant that grows above the ground is used for its gentle and calming properties, consisting of natural healing, food flavouring, teas, infusions, liquid extracts or tinctures.

Blue Passion Flower can be combined with relaxing and calming herbs like chamomile, hops, kava, skullcap, lemon balm and valerian root.

Benefits from using Passion Flower include reducing:
• Insomnia & improving sleep,
• Stress & Anxiety,
• Inflammation from skin irritations and burns.

Sleep is something we all love to have a lot of. Studies performed on patients who had bipolar disorder showed that using natural herbal medicines and drinking passion flower tea over a period of time, that they showed a reduction in anxiety and improvement in their overall sleep. For insomnia, the combination found that worked best was Passion Flower combined with Valerian root, especially if you have trouble switching off an active brain at night and need your cells to become calm.

Trivia About Passion Fruit:

Apparently, dreaming about Passion fruits suggests that in future, you will be able to do positive and sensible things. It reflects a sign of abundance, growth and financial gain, where being in this growth stage means you’re going in the right direction!

The fruit symbolises abundance, associated with the goddesses of fertility and the harvest. It often represents earthly pleasures, temptations and over-indulgence.

Some passion fruit contains high levels of caffeine, which will make it more difficult to relax and fall asleep. Passion fruit tea, however, contains alkaloids, which can aid your nervous system relaxing, making you tired and achieving a better night’s sleep.

Whilst the seeds and flesh of purple passion fruit can be eaten, the outer skin contains small quantities of cyanogenic glycosides (cyanide) and should not be consumed.
Therefore, commercial passion fruit juice goes through a process to deacidify via electrodialysis for this reason.

Why is Pomegranate Fabulous for your skin

Why Pomegranate is so Fabulous

Why is Pomegranate Fabulous for your skin

Did you know the range of benefits include your health as well?

Have you ever wondered about the benefits of Pomegranate for our bodies and skin? The fruit’s beautifully rich colour is enticing to look at, delicious to eat, whilst the oil from its seeds has fabulous benefits for your skin.

A little history about Pomegranate:It’s name is derived from the medieval Latin“pōmum grānātum, meaning “apple” and “seeded”. Pomegranate fruit is red-purple in colour, about the size of a lemon, with the husk consisting of two parts – the outer “pericarp ” and a spongy interior called the “mesocarp”where the fruit and seeds are contained. Pomegranates can have anywhere from 200 to 1400 seeds within this edible fruit, which is a berry producing its rich benefits from a single flower. The fruit grows like ornaments on a tree, is tolerable to drought type conditions, thriving in both dry and rainy environments, from the Mediterranean, to Iran and the Arabian Peninsula, India, Afghanistan and the warmer parts of North and South America.

Pomegranates historically represented fertility and wealth to various world cultures. It was a major food source but used conjunction with medicine, to treat intestinal problems, create a tonic for the lungs and heart or for toning and slowing down the aging process of the skin!To think how pomegranate was being utilised thousands of years ago is astounding!

The seeds of the pomegranate can be juiced or eaten raw, though the seed oil has wonderful benefits for our bodies internally as well as externally for our skin. Nutritionally, pomegranate seeds are low in calories, high in fibre for maintaining a healthy heart, rich in antioxidants and generous with micronutrients including Vitamin C, K, folate and potassium too. Adding pomegranate to your diet can assist with:
• Lowering blood pressure levels,
• Reducing pain in joints,
• Enhancing the heart’s health,
• Fighting off bacterial infections,
• Improving sexual functionality, and
• Boosting memory capacity.

For these reasons alone, including pomegranate to meals will benefit the whole family. Check out some of the Middle Eastern dishes that include pomegranate seeds and juices to create amazing treats for your family. For other ideas, check out 22 different options here at Pomegranate Recipes.

Why is pomegranate seed oil an excellent addition for our skin?

Today, we want to take care our skin’s appearance, whilst protecting and nourishing it too.Our bodies absorb all kinds of invasive pathogens through our largest organ, so defending the skin’s tissues from environmental pollutants and harmful chemicals has to be an important factor, not a cosmetic one.With the simplest of routines, we can remove these damaging substances collected in our skin, promoting cell regeneration, revitalisation and rejuvenation to the overall condition and appearance.

It’s not like we should expect to look like a 19-year old without any life or laugh lines when aged 51!! What we do want is to look in the mirror and observe the person who is enjoying a fully functional body with a healthy head of hair!! There’s definitely nothing wrong with wanting that, particularly if it contributes and boosts your overall confidence as a person!

Having personally suffered many years with dry, irritated, swollen and bleeding skin, I discovered keeping routines simple to be the best gift of love for my healing body. Over-complicated and expensive techniques can cause us to eventually become uncommitted or bored with completing what should take minutes for daily self-love and care for our skin.

Using ingredients that come from plants and seeds, their individual properties work their magic to support, boost and treat the overall health of our skin. These ingredients should always be suitable for the age and time frame of individuals. Pomegranate seed oil is one of those essential oils that assists with tightening the skin, promoting healthy aging whilst maintaining a gorgeous glow to your skin. It also aids protecting your skin’s collagen, as it is rich in polyphenols and antioxidants.

Its properties are also bountiful in vitamin K, containing excessive protective compounds, consisting of punicic acid, flavonoids, anthocyanidins and tannins. These chemical compounds occur naturally in plants. They are able to shield and protect our skin from being damaged by UV light and sun rays, as they assist the neutralizing of free-radicals from the environment, before these create damage to our skin cell’s DNA defence mechanism.

NOTE: This still means you should take precautions, wear the suitable sunscreen and sunblock to protect your skin from sun damage.

When you inspect the thick exterior of the pomegranate, you’ll see how the grains within are rich in colour and vitality, yet protected from the outside environment as it grows in the warm weather. In summary, pomegranate:

• Encourages the regeneration of your skin cells;
• It repairs the skin;
• Effectively helps to reduce and slow down the aging process, preventing wrinkles in the epidermis;
• Beneficial antimicrobial properties;
• Works as an effective anti-inflammatory ingredient; and
• It’s extremely moisturising which nourishes and softens the condition of the skin.

” Pomegranate is contained in Mature Range
of Essentially Lili Skincare Products ” Lili

From the Essentially Lili range, pomegranate has been added into the products for Mature skin for this reason.This is because our exposure to the sun has happened naturally over the course of the years, whether we have had sunblock and a hat on, or not. The idea of including this oil in the Serum and Balms was to help restore the balance of the skin’s tone, just in case it’s had too much exposure.

For Over 50s mature and potentially sun damaged skin consisting of the Diamond Era Balm ,Diamond Era Serum as well as the Sun Kissed Balm.

This is because pomegranate seed oil prevents the damaging effects of UVB sun exposure, whilst preserving and protecting the collagen found in our skin. NOTE:This still means you should take precautions, wear the suitable sunscreen and sunblock to protect your skin from sun damage. Refer to Blog for sunscreen tips.

Applying several drops of the blended serum before and after sun exposure can help revitalise your skin’s condition. The Diamond Era Serum contains a wonderful selection of ingredients for mature skin, which often becomes tired looking as the years approach. Having reached my next milestone, I have been added two drops of this blend to my nightly routine and my skin feels fabulous the next morning when I get up!

The other essential oils that are great for skin tightening which are found in quite a number of our products include: Frankincense, Lavender, Jojoba, Myrrh and Rosehip Oil. Be sure to look at the ladies’ range for the list of ingredients contained in each product and the testimonials about these.

I really believe that less is more, adjusting how much is needed as you go, depending on how your skin feels.The wonderful attribute with natural products especially during the summer time, is that you can place the balms in the fridge overnight to re-set or to cool it for when you apply it next time around.

EXTENDED OFFER

I’ve continued adding the Free Magic Serum or Frankincense Face Serum to orders over 100 CHF. Don’t forget to take advantage of this Offer. This offer is whilst stocks last, and cannot be used in conjunction with other vouchers or coupons.

Testimonials 2020

Starting the New Decade with Your stories & the love for your Pots of Magic.

I hope you all had a wonderful start to the new decade, 2020. With so many events both good and bad happening around the globe, I wanted to begin our Newsletter year with happy testaments and reviews.Sharing your story with me is one of privilege and honour, especially since these are personal struggles, frustrations and persistence to reach your goals. If there’s one thing I can encourage you through this Blog is to Never Give Up.

I’d like to share some new Testimonials that have been sent to me over the past year, when I wrote the last Testimonial Blog.Starting with the Nourishing Face Balm and Frankincense Face Serum , this dynamic duo are so wonderfully soft and hydrating, that seriously one or two drops is sufficient for your whole face to feel uplifted.

Snippets of glee commenced coming in from various locations in Switzerland, starting with this:
‘My pots of pure goodness have arrived. #natural #handmadecosmetics #youngandbeautiful. I have Nourishing Face Balmand samples of products I haven’t tried before.’

For the Frankincense Face Serum a lovely lady shared this:
‘I never believed anything external applied on the skin could work. But Essentially Lili has changed my belief.I have been using Frankincense Face Serum and it has worked wonders for me.My skin has a glow and looks healthy and nourished now.Thank you, Lili for such wonderful products.’

I Love this Testament regarding Cool Eyes :
’I am a working mom of 2 young children with lots of stress and not enough sleep.That makes my eyes look tired all the time. I was desperately looking for products to help my eyes and feel fresher.And then I was finally advised to try this product. The Cool Eyes was Love at first smell!When I applied it, I immediately knew this was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.Since I started using Cool Eyes I feel so much better during the day.If my morning gets too stressful and I forget to use it, I don’t feel as well in my body.I am addicted.I feel like it’s a product originally invented for Aphrodite And what I also love about it is that I know that it does not cause any harm to my skin.I do not need to worry about the ingredients because it’s all from Mother Nature.’ What a gorgeous post, definitely made me feel very happy for my customer.

For the Over 50’s classy modern woman, I created Diamond Era Balm with the Diamond Era Serum.
The ingredients chosen not only hydrate the skin, but give it an additional boost, especially if you’ve spent many hours out and under the harsher conditions of the sun. A customer writes:
‘I am really amazed by your balms, in particular the Diamond Era Balm.Honestly, I love cosmetics and like to think that I am pretty knowledgeable in that area.But your products are simply amazing.’

My friend from the U.K took a chance with the Mens Aftershave Care bundle.He shared this:
‘The Hydrating Face Balm and Aftershave Serum are lovely.After a shave, I apply both and it’s nice and leaves the skin full of moisture all day.’

What about for our youngsters, who are going through their hormonal changes, feeling a little anxious about how their skin is behaving and appearing?The products I suggest for this age group is the Youth Face Balm, Sunflower Cleanser and the Magic Serum as this combination not only cleanses the skin which is usually clogged, but helps re-balance and hydrated it too.I love when parents take a chance, based on the comments and feedback of others, or simply from the Testimonials given by you.It didn’t take long to receive these wonderful reviews, from other parts of Switzerland.

‘My gorgeous son was so embarrassed about the slight imperfections on his forehead. Lili has come to our rescue.Using Essentially Lili products daily for 3 weeks, my 13 year old son is so excited to wake up every morning for a view and review!He’s been using the Youth Face Balm, Sunflower Cleanser and the Magic Serum.His 12 year old sister is now sneaking in on the act.Thank YOU for proving products that are natural and are so easy to use.Do yourself a favour – buy / support local products that bring sunshine and health.’ The Aussie in Switzerland!’

Another well-known Global Photographer based in Switzerland shares:
’I wanted to wait a few weeks or so before submitting my review, but the results were so fast that I felt compelled to write this review as soon as. We’ve bought some of Lili’s Essentially Lili’s products – the Youth Face Balm and Magic Serum Not only did Lili provide us with the instructions on best use but also how the product itself will work.In no time at all we noticed a clear difference.For what it does for the skin and psychologically for young impressionable minds, it is certainly value for money and we cannot thank Lili enough. I would highly recommend looking through her product range and seeing what will meet your needs or just give her a call.Not only does she deliver good products her service and personality matches. Such a great combination and I will continue to buy her products and enjoy her services. Thanks Lili.’

The other products used for Acne, or Acne/Rosacea are the Evanesce Balm , Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm, Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm, together with the Magic Serum and either of the Cleansers.

One of my first customers shares:
‘I’ve been using Lili’s products for almost two years now.I’ve seen a huge change in my skin, the first products which have helped my skin long-term. My husband is now using the Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm too.He’s a runner and this cold weather is harsh on his skin, combined with a busy job, his skin wasn’t great, though he’s seen a huge improvement! Effects were noticeable after a few weeks and continues. Keep up the good work.’

I was so glad a Blogger shared her testimonial, writing:
’ I love these products. The Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm is one of my favourite products to use.I have been using this for about two years now. It keeps my skin nourished and feeling fresh all year long, but it feels especially nourishing during the cold winter months. On top of it, being all natural and amazing for your skin, it is great value for money. One container lasts so long!!’

“A Satisfied Customer is the Best Source of Advertisement.”

Another product is the Sun Kissed Balm which was created for Sunspots and discolouration, but not freckles. A customer shares:
‘I recently bought the Cypress Cleansing Balm and Sun Kissed Balm. Oh Wow, so good. My skin really loves them.I still suffer a break out in spots when my cycle comes around, but your potions really help to calm it all down.So thank you!’

Another fantastic message from a woman using the Sun Kissed Balm:
‘Lili, I kept meaning to message.I love the Sun Kissed Balm , and think it is improving my sun damage slowly. It also seems to be somehow drying up oily spots which I have had on my temples since Spring. I love the smell and feel of the balm.

A few months later, she wrote again, and this was definitely worth the wait:
‘On the first application I noticed how nice the product felt on my skin and smelt lovely.There was an improvement in the appearance of the sun-damage after a short time.I also noticed that the spots I had had all summer on my temples and hairline disappeared overnight. I thought might be coincidence from not using sun-cream any longer in the cooler weather. This week I noticed the spots had reappeared after using sun cream again. Applied the Sun Kissed Balm and they disappeared overnight! No idea which ingredients in the balm are responsible for this but know this will be my go-to product this summer!! Thanks Lili and sorry I did not spread the word sooner!!’

The Coloured Clays work well as a weekly pampering session for your skin.Choosing between the Red for Sensitive, Green for Problem or Oily, and White for Sensitive skin, this easy to mix and apply treat helps deep cleanse your skin. This definitely beats spending a fortune on methods that can actually cause further damage to your skin. A happy customer not only uses her products with her teens, she wrote after using the Red Clay:
‘My skin felt so amazing all day long. It was such a treat using the Red Clay and love that it’s so easy to have pampered myself at home knowing it’s so good and natural for my skin.’

Babies are our pride and joy, and nothing breaks our hearts more than when our little ones are suffering with their skin. With this is mind, I wanted to make skincare for kids that was not only gentle but effective for keeping it hydrated and soft all year round.Recently, my customer wrote to me about her baby girl:
‘I really love the products I have seen so far from you. The real only concern I have, what IF you move away some day, or for who know what reason, you stop producing?What will one do then? Returning to what we used before?Oh my god, my little 2.5 year old is already in love with the Natural Baby Moisturising Oil. Every time when I try to give her another crème, just to finish off the bottle rather than trashing it, she says, ‘Mama, No, this is not nice. I want the blue bottle body lotion.’
Don’t you just love it when kids tell you their truth?Thanks so much sweetie, I’m really pleased you’re happy!

Other Products in the Kids Range include for specific conditions like Chicken Pox, Molloscum Flying Warts and Bug bites / stings. A few different mums wrote about their experiences:
‘We used the Pox Potion , Amazing stuff!’

‘After dealing with these troublemakers, flying warts, I got hold of this amazing product, Go Molly . We were applying it regularly for a couple of weeks and they were going away.It was a big battle but we won.My girl suffers from low immunity and unfortunately now and then, there is a new one popping up.
I keep the product on hand and when you catch it at the beginning, they disappear within a few days. It’s Magic!’

‘I love the Mozz Off , spray as it feels so much nicer on my skin than the chemical versions you can buy.I have a young daughter and I can put it on confidently knowing it is good for her skin.Also it works!!No bites since I have been applying it.Thank you Lili! ’

For Concentrates and Inhalers , I received a few messages from happy customers:
‘The Anxiety Inhalers are great.My youngest loves the Kid’s one, using it when he feels stressed, and me too, actually, I love the Adults one!’

Whilst another Mum wrote:
‘Hi Lili, he is doing amazingly well.No more Eczema with the Renew Balm and has no more congestion, thanks to the Kids Breathe Easy Concentrate!

For me, no matter how old the person I’m helping is, getting the result is the ultimate goal. And these messages always make me the happiest.

What about that irritating skin condition, Eczema.I absolutely detest it, how it makes your skin feel, irritated, dried out, swollen, cracked, bleeding, itching and so utterly annoying.The other condition similar to this is Psoriasis which can have flare ups just as bad on the skin. These both should be resolved at source, finding out why the condition occurs in the first place. Don’t ever hesitate to book the Consultation session to fast track your steps to wellness.

Testimonials for Eczema & Psoriasis:
‘I often get heat rashes on my face and upper chest area. I asked Lili if she had something I could apply on it. Lili asked me if I had already moisturised after my shower and when I told her I applied Nivea, she asked me to wash it off first. Then she applied a tiny amount of Renew Balm to the areas covered in redness. A few minutes later, the rashes in the various places had all gone. I had to get myself a pot of this magic before leaving for London! Thanks so much, Lili.

‘I’ve had psoriasis on my scalp since I was 14, but my elbows and knees got really bad after having my first son. So for 9 years I’ve been trying all the lotions and potions from the doctors/internet/amazon etc and nothing had ever really worked. However within a couple of days using Lili’s Oasis Balm for Psoriasis. I noticed a huge improvement with less itching and then over the weeks a massive improvement in the appearance of the plaques. You only need a tiny bit of balm each time, a little goes a long way. I’ve just ordered some more!’

‘We started using Oasis Serum for Psoriasis on my mum’s head and she feels less itchy already. Fingers crossed that it works for her, where other medication hasn’t been able to get rid of the irritation.’

You have to love reading news like this, as you know that the Magic solution has brought relief to an otherwise ongoing problem.

    What Your Face Reveals About You

    Acne Face Map Dec19

    What Your Face Reveals about you

    As the skin maps out your body, telling amazing truths.

    History & Genesis of these techniques:

    Whilst not exactly established in modern science, the ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine used Face Mapping to determine the individual’s health based on the acne patterns.This practise is over 3,000 years old and is otherwise known as ‘face reading or mien shiang’ which is based on the flow of energy along specific meridians throughout the body.Disturbances to this flow of energy affects the ‘Qi’, which then manifests on the face with breakouts, redness, spots, or other issues.

    Face Mapping technique observes the person’s complexion, whether there is colour, dullness, breakouts, as well as checking the expression and the health of their tongue.With Ayurvedic methods focuses on the person’s body type (Dosha) whilst Chinese medicine involves manipulating the body’s meridians.When the main organs are not functioning properly, it can affect the overall health of the body.For example, increased redness, inflammation and breakouts could be the result of poor liver health and a build-up of toxins in the liver.Other digestive organs that could cause problems include the spleen, intestines, kidneys and stomach.Skin health is also subjected to diet, lack of sleep, use of medications, emotional anguish combined with high stress levels.

    This process is similar to Reflexology.In the 1930’s, Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist for Dr. Joseph Shelby Riley, became an advocate for Zone Therapy which she studied and used on her patients.She found that the feet responded well to the therapy due to their extreme sensitivity.Applying pressure to varying trigger points which corresponded to an area to the feet, her patients were able to feel less pain.This Body Mapping onto the feet became the Genesis of Reflexology.

    In the early 20th Century, publishing about Zone Therapy was done by Dr. William Fitzgerald, who showed how applying pressure to certain parts corresponded to other parts of the body.Dr. Edwin Bowers, his colleague, validated this theory using dramatic demonstrations. Whilst administering pressure to the area in the hands, a sticking pin was entered onto the face, corresponding to the area being treated, without causing pain.This ‘Acupuncture’ process is closely linked to Reflexology and Face Mapping, where it assists relieving the flow of energy throughout the body.Executing pressure to the trigger points related to the various organs in the body allow for the meridians to be released.

    What’s fabulous about Reflexology is an alternative therapy is that it can bring relief to so many areas, when performed correctly.
    • It can help unblock tensions built up in the muscles and organs, releasing deposits, knots and other hindrances;
    • It can assist the whole body’s natural flow and progression, from digestion to increased blood flow, allowing for nutrients to be circulated and carried throughout the system; and
    • It can work as a natural pain killer by releasing endorphins.

    Gallery of Images: Face Mapping used by Traditional Chinese Medicine, Digestive Tract and Spa Treatment by Anthony Tran.

    Modern Uses of Face Mapping Techniques:

    Today it is generally used for helping with problems like Acne, because the flare ups tend to happen in the same locations like the chin and forehead. It can also be used to treat puffiness, lines, wrinkles, redness and rashes caused by food allergies. The face is zoned out, just like the feet in Reflexology, to help indicate what could be the underlying problems for the skin:

    • A stressed or poor functioning liver or imbalanced kidneys, stomach, bladder or spleen can result in breakouts, lines or wrinkles between your eyes and eyebrows, or the nose area;
    • Breakouts on the forehead could be related to how the small intestine and bladder functions, in conjunction with poor digestion, stress levels and lack of sleep;
    • Acne around the mouth, jaw or on the chin could be related to the stomach, large intestine and colon, as well the reproductive system being imbalanced;
    • The whole digestive system, spleen and kidneys not working efficiently, or building up toxins could result in acne appearing below the lips and on the lower chin;
    Gut related problems or inflammation of the small intestines could result in breakouts near the nostrils;
    • Spots or pimples around the cheekbones could be the result of immune issues, allergies, respiratory concerns or smoking;
    • These could also be due to hormonal issues, stress and the reactions to our immune system.

    The condition of your face and skin can determine whether or not you’re consuming plenty of vegetables, are prone to high blood pressure, drink too much coffee, don’t sleep enough or lack the vitamins required for your body to function healthily. Treating the root causes can ultimately assist with achieving an acne free life, irrespective of your age.

    Science, however believes that the ancient methods are not as useful or exact for everyone.Looking closely to the skin, asking about lifestyle and the environment you work and live in will determine a better understanding for resolving issues:

    Our lifestyles are more demanding and stressful, impacting our facial skin and its appearance;
    • Changes in the ingredients and how our foods are made, together with high levels of processing;
    • Our gut health could require re-balancing with probiotic bacteria to help eliminate the toxins clogged in the intestines;
    Imbalanced or increased production of androgenic hormones, like testosterone, can over create excess secretion of sebum, which can drastically affect how our body reacts;
    • The accumulation of sebum and bacteria inside the pores can become infected or inflamed, causing clogged skin cells, pimples or cystic acne;
    Dead skin cells can also cause blockages, creating whiteheads, blackheads and varying kinds of acne;
    Poor hygiene, sweating or not cleaning excess oils gently can affect our skin;
    Immune or allergic reactions to modern skincare, makeup and hair products can create irritations to our skin;
    • We tend to sleep less or have poor sleep habits;
    Family history and genetics can determine the time process for new skin development and likelihood of acne breakouts;
    • For some, the environment they are exposed to can cause the pores to become blocked and prone to acne breakouts;
    Exposure to the sun can irritate the skin for some; and
    • Other health issues like diabetes and poor circulation can also have adverse effects on the skin.

    Some of the above mentioned factors will have nothing to do with the results of Face Mapping and the condition of one’s internal organs.It does give an overall guide for where to begin the process for well-being, a way to promote natural health products which may not necessarily address the actual cause for the acne breakouts.

    “Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes”. Quote By Sophia Loren.

    In all things, common sense should be applied first and foremost.Start with the basics:
    • Cleanse your face with gentle products at night time, to remove environmental pollutants from your skin;
    • Remember that these can cause a build-up of dirt, accumulation of sebum which could become infected;
    • Protect your skin from the sun during the day with a decent sunblock;
    • If you have any skin infections, treat these with products that will soothe and balance the skin;
    • To prevent transferring bacteria to other parts of your face and body, try not to touch your face and skin throughout the day, unless your hands are clean;
    • Look more closely at lifestyle and diet, making changes where necessary, especially if you notice reactions or allergies to foods, drinks and other commercial products;
    • Eating a more balanced healthier diet should assist in achieving the results you want;
    • However, if the symptoms carry on despite good hygiene and healthy eating, it would be worth seeking the assistance of a consultant specialising in Face Mapping.

    In conclusion, whilst the concept of Face Mapping has been used for a long time by the Chinese and Ayurvedic practitioners, the results may not necessarily be as black and white as believed.
    A combination of poor organ functionality with lifestyle stresses, environmental and diet related issues could also be the culprits to the lack of healthy glow of your skin.Be sure to look at your overall health in a holistic way. Try to deal with stressful situations and lifestyle concerns which will ultimately make you feel better in the longer term.Take care of your skin, consume the right kinds of foods and drink water to help flush the toxins from your digestive tract.

    If you are seeking Product to help resolve Acne concerns:
    • I would recommend cleansing your skin only at night time, to remove pollutants and environmental build-ups in your skin.This allows the pores to be cleared and impurities removed.New skin cells are generated whilst we sleep, so cleansing in the mornings will remove these, which we don’t want to do. Cypress Cleansing Balm which is made with Beeswax, Butters and Essential Oils or the Oil based Sunflower Cleanser.
    • The Frankincense Face Serum is gorgeous on the skin, and has Ylang Ylang to help combat the occasional breakout;
    • However, the Magic Serum helps treat more problematic Acne prone skin;
    • For Acne/Rosacea prone skin, we have Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm and Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm if your skin needs more tender loving care due to irritation or damage;
    • For treating Acne alone, Evanesce Balm;
    • For Youths who only have Acne breakouts, Youth Face Balm;
    • For hydration, there are a few varying products: For men over 30, there’s the Hydrating Face Balm;
    • For women over 30, there’s Nourishing Face Balm; and
    • For women over 50, Diamond Era Balm.

    There will be something for everyone who wants to help deal with how their skin looks and feels.

    Hands Need Tender Loving Care

    Hands Need Tender Loving Care

    Hands Need Tender Loving Care

    In all aspects of life, they are connecting us to ourselves and each other.

    Goodbye summer and hello weather changes in the Northern Hemisphere. Whilst my family and friends are gearing up for their Spring and Summer festivities in Australia, the end of their school years and a Christmas BBQ’ing at the beach, we’re preparing ourselves for a cold one!Snow has already started to fall on the nearby peaks of Zurich Switzerland.

    The heaters in our homes and shopping centres tend to do us more harm than good. Constantly taking off our warm winter woollies in order to browse the overheated shop, before putting everything back before stepping into the chillie weather. I remember doing this when visiting my cousin in London last year … it was so frustrating taking your jackets, scarves, gloves off whilst shopping on Kensington High Street, only to have carry it whilst browsing, and put it back on before leaving the store! Do you find this annoying too?

    My advice to those who feel their skin drying out during the winter periods:
    Stay hydrated by drinking water or herbal teas. The recommended daily intake of water is based on specific age groups: Children from 5-8 years of age should have 5 glasses or 1 litre, 9-12 years of age should have 7 glasses or 1.5 litres, and from 13+/Adults, should drink 8-10 glasses or 2 litres of water.This will help flush out toxins and keep your skin looking fabulously fresh ;
    Be Gentle with your skin all the time, irrespective of what you’re doing – cleansing, shaving, moisturising. Avoid using really hot water against your hands or body as it can also dry you out, and
    could make sensitive skin blotchy. It’s better to use tepid or lukewarm water, which will prevent breaking the small veins on your face ;
    Wear breathable fibres like 100% cotton when staying warm. This will prevent unnecessary irritation, sweating, sticking or itching to your skin and body, which normally happens with synthetics, polyester and other non-natural garments.
    Keep a bowl of water in your room at night time to allow that to be evaporated instead of the moisture contained in your skin. Ensure that your heating is also turned down whilst sleeping at night;
    Leave the diffuseron with your either blend ofBreathe Easy Concentrate or Blissful Minds ;
    Apply your choice of Hand Creams and if necessary, wear your cotton gloves to keep them from dehydrating whilst you sleep.

    Product selections:
    • For Hands, choose from Geranium Hands & Body, Rosey Hemp Hands or for hands that are cracked, use Renew Balm.;
    • For Children, apply Natural Baby Moisturising Oil which is gentle enough from their faces to their feet.
    • For the Concentrates, choose from Kids Breathe Easy Concentrate and Adults Breathe Easy Concentrate or Blissful Minds.

    These Concentrated Serums are made in a Carrier Oil, making them safe to add to the bath or diffuser. They help with Congestion, coughs and headaches.
    • Ensure your body and feet are also moisturised after showering to keep the rest of your skin feeling soft.
    • Other products to keep your skin hydrated can be found in the Body Eyes Feet Hands & Lips category of the webpage.

    These Winter tips will help keep your skin feeling wonderful soft all winter long. As stated in the Newsletter, I’m discounting the Hands Products this month so that you can get your Pot of Magic and take care of your hands during winter. Your hands need Tender Loving Care.

    There is nothing more beautiful than a vulnerable heart in open hands. – ‘Goodreads.com’

    The Essential Oils contained in our all-natural Hands products include Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis Organic), Cypress (Cupressus Sempervirens), whilst the Rosey Hemp Hands contains Rose (Rosa Centifolia) Palmarosa (Cymbopogon martini).
    The Benefits of these concentrated essential oils include:

    Geranium is non-irritating, non-toxic which is wound-healing with its antiseptic properties.It helps improve circulation whilst assisting and improving the health of your skin;
    Sweet Orange is ideal for dry or problem skin types, as it’s a wonderful skin tonic that helps to decongest and removes built up toxins on the skin. Being rich in antioxidants, this promotes natural regeneration of cells, minimising the signs of ageing;
    Cypress has antiseptic properties which helps to improve tone and assists in treating varicose veins, spider veins and broken capillaries;
    Rose contains antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory compounds which make this a fabulous ingredient especially for dry or ageing skin.It helps refine skin texture and tone whilst managing irritating skin conditions like Dermatitis and Psoriasis;
    Palmarosa has skin healing and hydrating properties, which improve the condition of dehydrated skin.

    These all-natural ingredients have been carefully selected when creating the products for your skin, as their benefits are so amazing, allowing for an accelerated process for regenerating and hydrating the cells. The Essential Oils Gallery includes: Geranium flowers, Geranium & Rosey Hemp Hand Products, Rose Flowers & Cypress.

    What do I see with Touching Hands?

    In the newsletter, I added a picture of a group of hands and felt there was such a strong bond and connection with those touching each other, that it was more than just about applying a product to make it feel soft and wonderful. Lately, this has resonated so strongly with me. Perhaps this is because I live so far away from those that I consider is important to me and my family.

    What I see when I look at that picture: Love, Friendship, Assistance, Diversity, Inclusion, Help, Connections, Healing, Belief, Encouragement, Compassion, Faith, Hope, Family, Strength, Teamwork, Ability, Willingness, Listening, Guidance, Reassurance, Perseverance, Togetherness, Participation, Unity, Appreciation, Edification, Building, Communication, Trust, Security, Gratitude, Self-lessness, Humility, Sensations, Charitable, Confidence, Safety & Bonds. This list is by no means finished, but it’s huge when looking at only ONE picture.

    So what’s the fascination with physical touch, the first sensation, and language we learn. For a mother and her baby, it strengthens the attachment, encouraging security and safety. Depending on the kind of touch that is given, it can create either positive or negative emotions. As our kids get older, touch as a sign of affection is necessary to help reassure and build up their confidence. When we share our lives with another, touch becomes an important aspect of communicating, whether it’s transmitting the feeling of comfort, or more intense sensations which can cause the heart to race from excitement. We want to make sure we’re using touch as a powerful form of communication to keep us grounded and bonded together.

    However, in life lately, I have noticed that there is only a handful who are willing to reach out, grab and hang onto your hands, especially when life or situations become tough and stressful. The journey we strive on is often challenging, it can be lonely and isolating. We sometimes forget about those that helped us when we almost lost everything, or had nothing and struggled to get back up onto our feet, making it easier to reach a higher potential. I look back at some of the hardships we faced and remember with fondness those who were there, despite distance and international time zones.

    To those who have been an element of strength and compassion for my family and me, we are humbled with gratitude and appreciate your words of encouragement. You helped us believe in a bigger picture that we were unable to see during that crisis, whether it was from exhaustion or fear of the unknown.

    What I have also noticed and learned is how being proud, self-centred, lacking gratitude or appearing better than others just encourages narcissist behaviours which will cause rifts and ultimately break off those wonderful and beautiful relationships. The world is big enough for many characteristics, and I’d rather keep my eyes focused on the greater good in others, hoping that they too can assist those around them by lifting, building, strengthening bonds and making the life we live a better one.

    Always try to be the best version of yourself and let the world see Your Own Kind of Beautiful.

    Loving Your Feet

    Loving Your Feet

    Loving Your Feet

    Why is that we often forget to take care of our feet?

    Our feet are often the last thing we think about when we take care of ourselves. Do you forget to take care of your feet until you’re about to go on holidays? Or do you wait until they’re dried out, cracked, smelling and aching?I honestly think that we take our hard-working feet for granted.We stand, walk, hike, dance, run, exercise, and they take our weight from place to place in our shoes which are often too tight, low, high or non-supportive. How do we cope, remain active, play sport or compete when they hurt or ache? At what point do we stop and give them a whole lotta love with pampering and massage?

    Day to day, after showering or following our morning routine, we make sure we put on our skincare, fix and style our hair and get dressed for the occasion before rushing out the door. If you’re wearing closed shoes, no-one really needs to see the condition of your feet, unless you’re wearing fancy open shoes or heels.Are you guilty of this?I can tell you I’m guilty of rushing out the door with my laces undone, tying them up in the lift to the garage!!! But let me share my yukky feet story.I hope you can relate to this and I would love for your honest feedback too.

    I recently stumbled across those hideous pics of my feet the last time I went for a pedicure in 2014. Don’t get me wrong, I loved going to see the Beautician and spending time with my friend whilst getting pampered.What I didn’t like is how embarrassing my feet’s heels were, cracked and bleeding, hurting like hell and ugly to look at. The beautician exclaimed, ‘OMG Lili, what happened to your feet?’ as she puts on a mask to start grinding the dead skin on them. Urgh how disgusting, no matter what I did, they were always dry.That yukky habit of picking, itching, scratching, picking, pulling, rubbing, and ripping that then caused bleeding and pain had exposed me, and I felt awful showing my feet in public.

    While she blasted my dead skin off, I just wanted to be sick and puke, or crawl into a hole from my embarrassment. And of course, she needed extra time to get passed the layers, cutting my heels by accident, which only added to my existing pain. Applying some feet product to my skin, she finished off with some colour nail polish, but my heels were already drying out by the time I arrived home. That’s just crazy, after all that time being pampered, why were my feet still dry?

    I tried many products over the years, from cheap Supermarket brands to expensive ones.Some of them were so icky to put on and smelt awful, yet I would apply because my feet needed them.I just didn’t like the results, irrespective of how religiously I treated my feet. Can you relate to that?

    When I started making Essentially Lili products in 2015, I decided that feet had to be included in the range. Shea Butter & Cocoa Butter are used to help provide the hydration to the skin.I experimented with blends. I accidentally spilled the liquid version of peppermint aero onto the stove which made our apartment smell so deliciously fragrant for quite some time!!I tried a number of blended versions to achieve the right buttery mix that would just melt onto the skin when it came into contact with my body’s natural temperature for the most effective application. This was the beginning of Peppermint Feet. It’s a definite favourite in Australia as another package heads out to Melbourne amongst other goodies.Not only does it get rid of smelly feet, athlete’s foot or fungal infections, it really hydrates the heels, keeping the skin soft and hydrated.

    Did you know that Peppermint Essential Oil is not suggested for Expecting or Nursing Mums? When a newly expecting lady asked me to help with her feet, I created the new blend using Tangerine instead of Peppermint essential oil, making it suitable for expecting and nursing mums. My daughter and I wanted to have a cute name for the new addition to the Feet Range. We came up with Tango Twinkle Toes as we imagined the expectant and nursing mum wanting to dance with her little ones, which is what I did with both my babies!

    The last product to be included to the range is Lime Foot Repair .The difference with this one is that it contains Beeswax, which seals the hydration into the skin.You don’t need much to keep the feet soft, but if you have stubborn problems, I suggest adding a little more and wearing socks to keep the product close to the skin whilst you sleep.

    This leads me to this next wonderful story. I was contacted by a concerned wife about her husband’s feet.They were aching, causing him agony and discomfort to walk. I suggested using either the Peppermint Feet or Lime Foot Repair depending on his preference of oils, scents and overall goal for his heels. Instead he opted to take them both, using Peppermint Feet in the mornings and Lime Foot Repair in the evenings.A few weeks later, he sent me before and after photos with this remarkable testimonial.

    From Andrew G, Zurich: “With my religiously male application techniques – not every day, often missing a few in between and several false starts, it is still no surprise that my heels look so good. Including the use of a pumice stone and repeated application of Essentially Lili Lime Foot Repair the difference is easy to see. At the start, I had cracked heels with cuts so deep they bled and were so painful I could barely walk.Within 3 weeks my heels were healed and my feet were looking stellar. I used Essentially Lili Lime Foot Repair at night and Peppermint Feet in the morning. Now the pain is gone, my cracks have disappeared and there’s a newfound spring in my step.”

    What an amazing result in such a short period of time … and how many men would ever admit to needing this kind of help for their feet?Check out his pictures in the upper gallery – before and after using the products!!

    Another testimonial about happy heels from Sevi, Geneva: My pregnant friend in Greece is very happy with Lime Foot Repair and keeps on using it every day.She has seen a huge improvement in the quality of her skin on the feet and toes. I must admit my daughter and I are huge fans of the Lime Foot Repair as well.After bathing and applying the Natural Baby Moisturising Oil, she insists on putting Lime Foot Repair on her feet.We both love the texture and scent of this product.I am a forever customer of Essentially Lili, once tried, you can never go back to anything else. Keep up the great products Lili, you are doing an amazing job! .”

    This testimonial was from lovely Emily, Basel, who just wanted to try something different. The Tango Twinkle Toes healed my dry scaly heels during my Camino de Santiago walk in Spain.As I wanted to carry only a few items as possible, I also used it for the rest of my body and it worked great!!It isn’t
    oily or greasy.

    Judith from Zurich wrote:The Tango Twinkle Toes is the only foot balm that has had any lasting positive effect on my feet! Absolutely love it!It was so nice to use a completely natural product whilst pregnant too.

    Who wouldn’t love to have results like these?I know that I love reading these kinds of happy testimonials, every time!!Check out the Before Pictures in the Gallery:Before & After Andew’s Feet, Yukky Feet at Beautician’s,Peppermint Leaves, Airport Check-In.

    As mentioned above, there are plenty of brands you can get from the stores that may treat your skin.What I try to do with my products is give you long-term results, and make your feet feel great all the time.Depending on how bad the condition of your heels are, you’ll need to gently scrape away the dead skin before having your shower.

    You can also make a gentle scrub using sea-salt, or Himalayan Pink Salts, coarse sugar, Olive Oil and some lemon juice.Mix the contents together in a container and gently scrub your legs and feet, before washing it off in the shower.I use this mix (without the lemon) to soften my hands after washing the dishes too.You only have to mix up a small amount in order to keep it for around a week before making a fresh batch.

    As stated in the Newsletter, I’m discounting the Feet Range this month so that you can get your Pot of Magic and take care of your feet, all year round.Remember, your feet need just as much love as the rest of you, and if they’re aching, hurting or even smelling, get them sorted, as naturally as you can.

    Be one of the many who add their testimonials to the Essentially Lili page, sharing your own story and experience with what helped you.This is what I love the most about what I do.Helping you overcome not only your skin concerns, but finding the confidence to be the best version of yourself to Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful.

    What 21st Century Makeup Contains

    Makeup containing Parabens

    What 21st Century makeup contains

    Following on from Ancient times, the ingredients contained
    in products is a different kind of toxic.

    In the last blog, I wanted to share a bit about the history of Santorini, Crete and the Minoan civilization, and shared the kinds of ingredients used by the Ancient Greek, Egyptians, Romans and Queen Elizabeth I. I must say that it seems QEI had the worst result in the end as she suffered the most from lead poisoning combined with pox and rotting teeth.There’s one way to encourage our kids to brush their teeth! Picking up where we left of:

    From 1800-1900s, toxic lead and copper which was used for facial powder is replaced with Zinc Oxide. Another ingredient Ceruse, which also comes from white lead, was later declared poisonous.Health issues like muscle paralysis, facial tremors and death were thought to be caused by this. Queen Victoria regards make-up as ‘improper’ for everyone except for those in the theatre!

    During the Edwardian times, the pressure for hostesses to appear youthful increases, resulting in a rise of cosmetic purchases.Beauty salons become secretly more popular, as many of the customers enter through back doors to hide the fact they need help to maintain their ‘youthful appearance’.Imagine that, hiding your appointments to the beauty parlour, so that others wouldn’t know you were getting help with your ageing skin!

    In a previous Blog, I wrote about the horrible ingredients contained in a lot of modern-day products.You can click here to see the full details of that Blog: Pick Your Ingredients.

    So let’s fast forward to what 21st Century makeup & skincare products contain.

    Detergents called P-phenylenediamine, 4-MMPD Sulphate, Diaminobenzene, Ammoniated Mercury and Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS/SLES) & Foaming agents should be avoided. Found in soaps, detergents, shampoos, mouthwash, hand cream, cleansers, hair dyes (Permanent & Semi Permanent) as well as toothpaste.The mucous membranes of the mouth is the main source of absorption, storing the detergents in the liver, heart, lungs and brain. The skin can become irritated, can cause hair loss, whilst prolonged exposure can cause skin damage.

    Solvents derived from Petroleum found in brake & hydraulic fluid like anti-freeze. Includes Propylene, Butylene & Glycol, Mineral oils & petrolatum. Used as a humectant, they penetrate the outer layers of the skin, leaving a film on the skin, trapping moisture, toxins & waste that would otherwise be eliminated through the skin.These ingredients are found in deodorant, shaving gel, conditioner, shampoo, toothpaste, baby wipes, lotions, cosmetics such as foundation creams, mascara, lipsticks & suntan lotion.These ingredients are odourless and colourless, are cheap and allow the ingredients to combine well.Side-effects include:
    * Solvents can irritate the skin and may cause dermatitis & conjunctivitis. Ingestion may cause pulmonary oedema, brain damage, hypoglycaemia, intravascular haemolysis.
    * respiratory & throat irritations, central nervous system depression, blood & kidney disorders.

    Bleaching Agents: Hydroquinone and Kojic Acid are whitening agents used to bleach the skin.

    Proyply-Alcohol is an antiseptic used in cosmetics, shampoos, shaving products, waterless hand cleansers, mouthwash (25-30%) and in the preparation of bottled water, carbonated drinks and decaffeinated coffee.In the mouthwash, it has been linked to mouth and throat cancers.

    Preservatives, Q15, Antiseptic, includes Parabens Includes Parabens (methyl-, propyl-, butyl- ethyl-) Proyply-Alcohol. These have also been found in carbonated drinks. Parabens are added to stop microbial growth and extend the shelf life of the products.Many Skincare Products contain Parabens, those with citrus seed may have been sprayed with parabens.They can be harmful if inhaled or swallowed, they can cause irritation of the skin, eyes and respiratory tract.It can cause allergic reactions on the skin, of which symptoms include itching, redness and pain.And it can affect hormones and have been found in Breast tumours.

    Body Acidity regulators like Ethanloamines used with preservatives like Diazolidinyl Urea. These are found in soaps, shampoos, bubble bath, lotions, cosmetics, laundry detergents.It can severely irritate body tissues, can cause dermatitis and may be corrosive to the eyes.It prevents bacterial growth, though it’s not effective against fungi.These are acidity regulators and used normally with other Ingredients like DEA Cocamide. Amines react with nitrosating agents to form nitrosamines, which are carcinogenic.

    Nanoparticles: include titanium dioxide & zinc oxide for sunscreen products. They are ultra-fine particles which possess certain properties due to their tiny size.This allows them to accumulated in the body, possibly by topical use.May trigger potentially harmful chemical reactions.

    Chemical blocks: may be absorbed by the skin and work by absorbing the UV light.This causes a chemical reaction in the molecule of the block, which may release free radicals. The skin damage can cause photosensitivity and blockers known to do this include: octocrylene, octyl-methoxycinnamate (octinoxate), benzophenone-3, (oxybenzone) and benzophenone-4 (sulisobenzone). If these penetrate the skin before it absorbs the UV photon, then these free radicals are released into the skin.It can increase the risk of cancer and contributes to skin ageing.

    Synthetics like fragrances & colours, Talc & Toluene. Phthalates listed as Perfumes / Fragrances preserves synthetic scents. These are often not listed on the ingredients but are contained in health & beauty products like Nail polish, lacquers and soft plastics such as pet and infant chew toys. Toluene acts as an endocrine disruptor, potential carcinogen, may cause birth defects.Whilst Talc Is chemically similar to Asbestos. It is found in many baby products, including feminine powders, condom lubricants and cosmetics.As a feminine powder or spray, it can cause ovarian cancer. There are Over 200 Synthetic Fragrances used in Cosmetics. The label only has to state ‘Fragrance’ so you have no way of knowing which of the 200 are in your product.The fragrance can mask the product going off, provide no benefits, so best avoided.Adversely affects male sperm, increases testosterone and oestrogen, has been found in Breast Cancer.

    Preservative: Parabens, Benzoyl Peroxide, many of which are toxic and come from questionable sources. to see what kind of other products are included.

    UV Filters and Sunscreen Agents: Refer to a previous blog about the shocking ingredients contained in sunscreens: The Shocking News About Sunscreens.Ingredients include Avobenzone, Mexoryl, Oxybenzone (a hormone), Benzophenone, which are UV Filters that are meant to block or absorb UVA rays.Titanium Dioxide helps block both UVA and UVB. This is enough to make you feel sick just reading to this point.

    But wait, there are some fabulous ingredients derived from plants, herbs, and the ground which are amazing too, once we pass the Gallery of Pictures: Edwardian Make-up in 1908; Household Products; Chemical Lab, Mixed Herbs.

    Always check that the source is plant-based.

    Essential Oils, including Lavender, Frankincense, Cypress, Sweet Orange, Myrrh, Rose, Palmarosa, Tea Tree, Sandalwood & Jasmine

    Butters like Cocoa & Shea Butter, with Vegetable Oils like Avocado, Jojoba, Castor & Wheatgerm Oils. These are known as Emollients which help calm, soothe and heal the skin.

    * Castor Oil: is a thicker vegetable oil, which acts as a barrier, emollient and lubricant, found mainly in lipsticks and moisturisers.
    * Jojoba Oil: is also very similar to skin pH and human sebum, being able to effectively penetrate the skin.It moisturises and naturally renews cells.
    * Avocado Oil: is rich in vitamins, is a great skin conditioner, moisturiser and is absorbed easily by the skin.

    Soothing Agents: that help calm, soothe and heal the skin. These can include a variety of ingredients.
    * Aloe Vera has the same pH as skin, is extremely protective and soothing as well as being a natural oxygenator, allowing oxygen to be drawn and held to the skin.It is also a natural astringent, and its best form is directly from the plant.
    * Allantoin: also has soothing healing agents and calming properties.
    * Camphor: alleviates itching, irritation, redness and acts as a cooling agent.
    * Olive Oil: contains antioxidants called secoiridoids and these activate gene signatures that assist anti-aging and reduced cellular stress, as mentioned in the previous newslettter.

    Other Emollients, Emulsifiers & Surfactants: include:
    * Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth 20, Cetearyl Alcohol these emollient or lubricants allow for the emulsifying process of mixing oil and water phases of skincare making, which are also known as a binding Agent.
    * Isopropyl Isostearate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Isopropyl Myristate form a film on the skin when applied, allowing for easily absorption.They are contained in pre-shaving, after-shaving, shampoos, bath oils, deodorants, antiperspirants, creams and lotions.
    * Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride: works as a barrier agent, lubricant and solvent found in foundations.
    * Emulsifier & Surfactants include: Glyceryl Oleate, Glyceryl Stearate, Glyceryl Cocoate (surfactant), Glyceryl Stearate SE (pearlizing/opacifier), otherwise known as a binding Agent. These ingredients allow for the emulsifying process of mixing oil and water phases of skincare making, whilst the surfactant gives the foaming and cleansing aspect. Pearlizing allows products like shampoo to be a pearl type colour instead of transparent, whilst opacifiers are added to transparent cosmetics to make them more impervious to visible light.

    Waxes: sourced from a variety of natural sources, these act as a barrier agent or binder.These include:
    * Beeswax: can be used to blend oil with water components, and is a great barrier to protect the skin, found in skincare and make-up.
    * Candellila & Carnauba Wax: found in lipsticks, creams, deodorant sticks and hair removal products, and used as a binder as well as barrier agent.
    * Kaolin Wax: is found in masks for oily / combination skin types, and is an oil absorbing powder that gives not only colour, but slip.

    Himalayan Salts, course sugar, Herbs, clay, mud, flowers, leaves, roots, nuts, seeds, beeswax, milk, honey, yoghurt & natural fats.

    Water: Found in many products as the basis of the formulations.It should be distilled, deionized or purified water.

    Vitamins: A (Retinol, or Retinyl Palmitate), C (Ascorbic Acid, an antioxidant and preservative), E (Tocopherol, an antioxidant which can prevent UV damage) & B (Pathenol, a humectant – is what helps retain moisture).

    Antioxidants: Butylated Hydroxy Toluene (BHT) and Resveratrol, which is found in seeds, stems and leaves of grape vines.This protective antibiotic is produced when the plant is under stress, whether caused by drought, ultraviolet irradiation, inflammation or fungal attack.Other antioxidants are Vitamin C and E.

    Alpha Hydroxy Acids: citric, glycolic and lactic acid assist with exfoliating the layers of the skin, improving the texture and allowing the absorption of active ingredients, reducing wrinkles and restoring moisture.These are typically found in anti-aging skincare.

    Salicylic Acid: (beta hydroxy acid) helps reduce oiliness, acne and the appearance of fine lines, found in chemical peels.

    Glycerine: is also a humectant, which helps keep moisture and hydrate the skin, providing a barrier.

    Hyaluronic Acid: can hold water in the skin and is commonly used for deep hydration in anti-aging products.

    Lecithin: is a water attracting agent that allows for easy spreading, hydration and improves the texture of the skin.

    Silicones: Cyclomethicone & Dimethicone are molecules which gives the smooth texture, slip & glide factor to cosmetic products without blocking pores. These are adding widely in hair styling, skincare and make-up products.

    Lanolin Derivatives: from dewaxed lanolin is used in skin moisturisers, minimising the stickiness of creams and lotions.The Lanolin alcohol however, is used to thicken shampoos and bath gels, giving the cosmetic products a high gloss and creamy texture. Some are reacting to lanolin in products.

    Caffeine: believe it or not, alleviates puffiness under the eyes.

    We have definitely come a long way from Ancient times, in both good and bad ways.Whilst the makeup cosmetics of the past included minerals and plants which enhanced their beauty but gave the impression of nobility, purity, wealth and stature, they were unknowingly poisoning themselves with items like lead. Despite the evolution of the ages from ancient times, we have been applying cosmetic products and treatments to maintain our youthful appearance.The difference is that today’s cosmetics contain far more harmful ingredients in their mass production, allowing products to be stored for years, to be kept in direct sunlight in the shop-front windows and have a uniform consistency when applied to the skin. These toxins are absorbed by our cells and distributed throughout our body causing more harm which is extremely scary.

    Cosmetics is a multi-billion-dollar industry that appeals to creating an illusion of perfection, of being better than what we already are, of changing what we don’t like about ourselves, covering it up or using applications to enhance our overall look. Then we add modern technology and social media which helps to constantly push us to manipulate our real image. Whether it’s through photo-shop, airbrushing, beauty apps, image enhancers or other gadgets, some of us are using these to create or enhance our moods, change our colour, improve our shape and size to perfect this unrealistic image that we want the others to see, hiding what’s real and true.

    But everyone is doing it, from movie stars, singers and influencers, those that are revealing too much, wearing heaps of make-up and portraying this almost exaggerated vision of what they regard as ‘beautiful’. Will we ever are comfortable enough in our own skin to embrace our beauty from within? Will we constantly make changes to improve or finding alternative solutions instead How do we encourage each other, especially our youth to ‘Love Their Own Skin?

    What I love is helping you find your inner beauty & confidence with simple self-love which starts by taking care of yourself first. Whether it’s watching what & how much you eat, what you’re applying to your skin, being aware of the ingredients contained in the products that you’re using, and making lifestyle changes to improve your overall health. This is the beginning of a beautiful journey with yourself, loving who you are and Being Your Own Kind of Beautiful
