L’arte e la scienza di sentirsi sicuri nella propria pelle

Intervista a Lili Giglia, fondatrice di ESSENTIALLY LILI

Scritto dall’editore Dott. Marina Nani @Sovereignglobal

Come mai sei venuta a vivere in Svizzera?

Qual è stata l’ispirazione originale dietro Essentially Lili?

Do you have Autoimmune Issues

Dr Axe Leaky Gut

Do You Have an Autoimmune problem?

Or suffer with leaky gut syndrome?
What are the signs that you could be developing these problems?

Do You Have an ‘autoimmune problem’? There’s been a lot of talk lately regarding ‘autoimmune’ problems and what it’s all about. What does it mean to you?

Normally, the body should be able to fight against anything foreign that threatens the well-being or health of tissues and cells. This is regarded as the immune response which protects the body from harm. Autoimmune disease is when the body fails to differentiate between what is ok for the body and part of ‘self’ and what is not ok for the body and ‘non-self’.

The result of an autoimmune disease is that the body becomes in danger of being overcome by invaders, oxidants or diseases which it would otherwise fight against.  It can destroy body tissues and cells, affecting and changing the functionality of the organs. There is also a higher risk of getting bacterial infections when the autoimmune system is weak.  Did you know that 70% of your immune system is found in your ‘GALT’ – gut associated lymphoid tissues?

Your digestive system can become rather sluggish, clogged and unable to process what has been consumed without requiring additional assistance. What your body once considered ‘good foods’ is no longer recognised, where these become difficult to eliminate without other issues coming to the surface.

Autoimmune disease symptoms can often go undetected for a long time, where the conditions like leaky gut syndrome develop without one realising anything is wrong.  (Note: Leaky Gut syndrome has been given the medical term – “Intestinal Permeability”)

Diagnosing the conditions can also be just as frustrating.  Sometimes the process for receiving an official autoimmune diagnosis can take years of going to various doctors for different types of tests.Often these tests will only touch the surface of what the culprit might be because the symptoms of these Autoimmune conditions can be so vague and contrasting.What do you look for when trying to figure out if you’re suffering with autoimmune disease symptoms?

Medical journals ‘British Medical Journal and International Journal of Gastroenterology’ ‘ have both suggested that problems with a Leaky Gut are causing a vast number of autoimmune diseases. These include conditions like ‘lupus, allergies, depression, eczema, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis amongst others. The rate of chronic health conditions rose in children by nearly 15% between 1994 and 2006 according to the Journal of American Medical Association , where conditions like obesity, asthma, learning and behavioural problems had the largest growth during that time. Based on blood tests performed, it seems that youngsters are also five times more likely to have celiac disease symptoms as compared to their peers from the 1950s.

Normally, the gut would have lots of good bacteria like ‘Bacteroides fragilis’ which helps the immune system stay in balance like a referee would. Its function together with the ‘microbiome’is to keep the pro vs anti-inflammatory functions in order, restoring it when it goes off kilter. Testing and research have found the bacteria has become endangered, and therefore has not been functioning as it once did.  Whilst this is a scary concept, it also means that Medical teams are working to better understand what’s happening, and how to ultimately improve autoimmune conditions. It will help understand why some people get really ill whilst others suffer less. The aim is to improve the longevity of our health but it will require healing the gut first.

Autoimmune conditions can be quite disheartening and stressful, especially if you are unable to pinpoint what’s wrong with your body and gut. But rest assured, there are ways of finding out and putting order back into the current stressful situation. Start by being kind to yourself and accepting that something you’re having is no longer in agreement with your body.  This is hard to do, especially if you are not ready.  But once you accept that your body needs a change, it will be the beginning to finding the culprit of your well-being What can we do to help get to the bottom of this?

If you have any of these common symptoms, hopefully they are not that serious and will go away with time. However,  if they are persistent, please get yourself checked out. You might think that leaky gut only affects the digestive system, but the truth is, it can affect the body is so many other ways.

The main organs, tissues that are affected by autoimmune diseases are:
• Skin – with symptoms like Rashes, red bumps on facial skin or red flaking skin.Other skin concerns are Acne, Rosacea, Eczema, Psoriasis, Dermatitis;
• Digestive tract upsets – Stomach cramps, Gas or bloated stomach, Diarrhea or constipation, may indicate irritable bowel disease;
• Brain – Anxiety, Stress, Headaches, Brain Fog, Fatigue or hyperactivity, feeling weird, tired or even exhausted;
• Red blood & blood vessels;
• The Glands – affecting organs like the Pancreas for Type 1 Diabetes; the Thyroid, where underactivity causes Hashimoto’s disease or overactivity causes Graves’ disease. These activities usually result in Weight loss or gains;
• Connective Tissue – with conditions like Multiple Sclerosis and Lupus;
• Muscles & Joints – with symptoms like Rheumatoid arthritis or fibromyalgia symptoms, giving pain, weakness, stiffness or other discomfort;
• Other symptoms include Attention Deficit problems, Asthma, Dry mouth, frequent colds, allergies, Feeling depressed.

That’s quite a lot to consider for Autoimmune problems, and if you’re experiencing any of these, you are not alone.

Start with getting additional help – if you need to get certain tests done, whether they are blood or excrement tests, have them done by the right specialists. This will allow the doctors and specialists to check for various imbalances.

A dear friend Sandra Mikhail, who is a Dietitian that specialises in gut health who is based in Zurich.She’s a fellow Melbournian who can be contacted for her guidance at https://nutrition-az.com/about/ or at email:  info@nutrition-az.com.(Sandra Mikhail holds a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics from Monash University, Australia; A Master of Advanced Studies in Nutrition and Health (ETH Zurich) and is a member of the Dietitians Association of Australia)

Sandra can also direct you to recommended gastroenterologists that she works with. She tells me: There’s a Gastro specialist in Australia that can actually “diagnose” this using a number of diagnostic tools.There are a number of diagnostic tools being looked at in research to assess their validity and reliability in detecting intestinal permeability (leaky gut syndrome).”   Should you wish to find out more, please contact her directly on the email details above.

In summary, Intestinal Permeability or leaky gut syndrome begins with inflammation in the gut and intestines, where it progresses to eventually preventing nutrients being absorbed or the sufferer becomes sensitive to foods or chemicals eaten. The autoimmune disease syndrome can affect all parts of the body, including:
• Joints, muscles, adrenal glands, Digestive tract functionality, the brain, skin, mouth, lungs, sinus & thyroids.
• If you have concerns about autoimmune disorders, start by removing foods and factors that can damage the gut;
• Replace them with dirty foods, healing foods as well as taking specific supplements and probiotics to help re-balance the gut.
• And remember that autoimmune disorders and leaky gut syndrome are not a ‘one fix fits all’ scenario.

• What works for one person and their family may not necessarily work for another.
You can also choose from the Essentially Lili Help Skin Assistance Range of Products to bring relief whilst you are undergoing treatments and finding the culprit.

• Please remember not to the medications if you have been given them, but seek medical advice.  Resolving this is not as simple as taking supplements and Probiotics.

Ideally, removing foods that can cause damage to the gut is necessary. Replace these with foods that help heal, repair and re-balance with Probiotics and supplements.I will write more about dirty foods, microbiome, foods that heal and Probiotics in the coming blogs.

Begin a new page – seek alternative methods if you don’t want to take medications as there are plenty of new options. Whether these options are through the Nutritionist, Specialist, Acupressure, Reflexology, Herbal teas & medicines, Homeopathy pills as well as Conventional medication.  Your goal should be to find a solution that gives you well-being to your Mind, Body and Spirit a Holistic balance of all these.

Taking Time Out

Taking Time Out – Chillax, Relax & be kind to yourself, in order to get your health back on track.

I recently wrote about our wonderfully fun travels in Italy … we love going there and enjoying everything it has to offer. Great food, wonderful beaches, fun people and other adventurers making their way to Italy. What I dreaded the most was the consequences of my indulgent eating habits catching up to me.

And it did catch up, in a number of way. First with my weight, piling on a few too many kilos that made me feel uncomfortable and self-conscious.I would wear baggy clothes just to hide some of it.

It also irritated my skin, as the build-up of Dairy products in my system eventually comes out on my hands. They were irritated, swollen, cracked, itchy and bleeding.Has this happened to you?

I can never know how long it will take for my body to rid itself of the build-up of lactose in my system. But one thing it needs is time, persistence and patience.The irritations began in August and are still not 100% in October.That’s nearly 3 months of discipline.This just goes to show that there is never a quick overnight solution to long-term problems.Whilst I apply my products continuously throughout the day, the main factor that helps me resolve it is controlling my diet. I must ensure that it’s dairy-free to prevent Eczema become part of my life.Don’t get me wrong – I do enjoy some dairy products, I just should not eat them as they are not good for me and my body if I want to remain Eczema Free.

In June, I weighed myself and was not happy with what the scales showed.Since returning from holidays in August, I cut back without totally eliminating carbs from my diet.I removed the dairy products which I’m intolerant to anyways, in order to allow my body the time needed to heal and get my hands sorted out again.I asked my family to help out too, with tasks like washing up, as even hot water can cause my skin to become irritated.It’s so frustrating and yet time, persistence and patience is needed for me to get the results I want.

Today I am less bloated from changing what foods I have been eating.When weighing myself recently, I have lost 5.4 kilos which has allowed me to move down a notch on my belt. I am really pleased considering this is happened without doing gym type exercise.I still have a while to go to reach and remain in my ideal weight bracket.

The other thing is taking the advice from those that are older than us.Our 89-year-old neighbour recently passed away, leaving behind his wife of 61 years of marriage and 2 daughters.The years he suffered being unwell meant he spent a lot of time going back and forth between the hospital, the elderly people’s home and his own place.It caused a lot of anguish and stress for his wife, never knowing if he would be well enough to just stay home without any need for assistance.We talked about his health and the advice she gave me was, ‘Don’t leave things unfixed or too late if they need to be resolved.Get them sorted out whilst you can.’So it’s time for me to finally go and get myself sorted and take time out.

Diastasis Recti, an umbilical hernia is when your intestine or other tissues inside your abdominal cavity bulge through the weak spot around the belly button, leading to an alien looking “outie” belly button.In addition to protruding outward, the belly button area may also become swollen and a bit painful.

My hernia pops out like an alien hand especially if I have eaten too much.It was bothering me for a while now, and this year I have decided to get it sorted out. On the 24th October, I’ll be having this operation, removing that little alien and whatever else shouldn’t be there, whilst having the split muscle meshed back in.It will mean resting up for 10 days as I will be unable to lift or put too much emphasis on my core muscles. I could risk damaging the operation repair and having the muscle tear again.I will be able to just chillax, relax and allow my family here take care of me for a change. Though the down side is having to put all production of new products on hold for a while.

About the Diastasis Recti – which ironically can also be caused by doing lots of core exercises!
The most common can develop during the 2nd trimester, peak during the 3rd and remain after delivery.During the pregnancy, the hormones such as relaxin are released which can weaken the tissues of the abs.Whilst the belly is growing, the ab muscles are thinned and stretched, adding pressure to the whole abdominal region.Months after the birth of the child, the abdominal muscles can naturally come together a little, improving any diastasis recti, though it’s not always totally resolved.It’s even more common for those giving birth to twins or having multiple pregnancies where the initial hernia was already existing.

Diastasis recti isn’t a serious condition, nor particularly dangerous, but it makes sense to treat it before it gets bigger. It could lead to postural problems and other symptoms if left too long.Speak with your Doctor, Gynaecologist, or physical therapist especially if you have pain and discomfort in your abdominal area or back. Always get medical help if you see other signs of a hernia, have severe gastrointestinal issues, notice swelling around your abs that lasts more than several days. You should visit your primary doctor or even a general surgeon to have a CT scan if you have a true concern about having a hernia, since this may require a medical intervention.

Other factors for hernias include:
• Being Obese or gaining weight, especially around the belly area;
• Being over the age of 35;
• Having injuries. trauma or surgery to the abdominal area;
• Repetitive core exercises such as Pilates and stomach crunches could increase your risk;
• Exercises and sports that require you to arch your back and twist from side to side can also increase your risk.These include sports like Tennis, Golf, Gymnastics, Yoga, Biking, Weight-lifting and even swimming.
• Injecting the abdominal area with steroids can cause the muscles to weaken.
• Who would have thought that being naturally flexible can cause the connective tissues to stretch and thin out?

Other natural ways of preventing a hernia:
1. Do some physical therapy;
2. Make sure your exercises are specific for strengthening the core without further damaging the area;
3. Try to prevent adding abdominal pressure to the area – lifting, carrying;
4. Keeping a healthy weight; and
5. Treating hernias before they become bigger.

Should Dieting Be Punishment?

When you hear the words diet,
do you automatically think of rabbit food and starvation?

When you hear the words diet, do you automatically think of rabbit food and starvation? In the past, I associated dieting with a total restriction of my food intake that it put me off wanting to do it at all. The idea of eating only iceberg lettuce and bland foods put me off doing a diet for any reason.

What if I suggested that if you wanted to lose weight successfully, you could eat almost everything…. Would you think I was nuts?The reality is there are plenty of fad diets that help you to lose weight very quickly, which makes you feel great at the time.But what happens when you start eating ‘normally again’?Is it not better to just eat better from the beginning and make the ‘diet a lifestyle change instead’?

Often people say to me that my products don’t work.But the reality is that they are unwilling to make a small change to their food intake in order to find what triggers their body’s reactions.It may not necessarily be the same intolerance to food as someone else, If you think about how long you have suffered a condition

Years ago, when I was covered from face to thighs in weeping and bleeding Eczema, I sought the help of a Naturopath with his Homeopathy medications to assist in finding my well-being.I was distraught from how hideous my skin had become, my appearance was heart breaking to look at, even for me.I remember my Naturopath saying I was the worst case he had ever seen – thanks! ☹

You can imagine my thought process as he told me we had to start a very strict diet.But my diet wasn’t about losing weight, even though it was the side effect for me. My strict diet was about detoxing my body from the excess steroids and medications I had been on for years to suppress the Eczema that had become toxic in my body.

My Italian diet was altered very quickly for detoxing to become a Vegan Vegetarian one. For one who has grown up eating the Mediterranean type foods of meats, cheeses, pastas, vegetables and fruits with espresso and wine, this was like a punch in the face for my Dad, the Chef, and I. We were both confused and somewhat horrified.He had been lovingly preparing our meals for years and in his mind, meant he had contributed to my being unwell.This was not the case – the toxic build up in my body had caused my reactions in the skin.

The first day and week are always the hardest.All you want to eat is the breads and pasta to fill your tummy.You want to drink the beverages that you were normally drinking instead of boring water with a dash of lemon – right?I didn’t starve myself, that is for sure. My day consisted of 6 meals a day, every 2nd one was a healthier snack.I had lots of veggies, lots of fruit, lots of salad all day. They had no dressings, no salt or pepper, sugars, breads or ingredients which could have irritated my gut furthermore.My Naturopath wanted to ensure that my body was cleared of toxins as soon as possible, whilst he took care of the homeopathy side of things.

During this time, even all-natural honey worked against me. I put a tiny amount on my tongue to taste and reacted so quickly that I was scratching my face and body in the time that I swallowed the honey.It was such an immediate and awful reaction that confirmed how sensitive my body had become during this time.

I ate healthy foods and I was satisfied after each meal.There was cabbage, carrots, potatoes, onions, broccoli, lettuce, cucumbers, leeks, lentils, beans, peas, bananas, melon, nectarines, apricots, apples, pears and so much more that I was able to eat.When I felt hungry, I had a piece of fruit for a snack or made a fruit-based smoothie.At home, the salad bowl was huge and full of goodness.The lentils were made without pasta for me so that I had less digestion issues.My parents really made this 4-week process so much easier for me.

By the end of the first week, my skin had become worse.More irritated, more red, itchy, inflamed, weeping and bleeding.I cried so much, feeling more isolated and hideous than when I had started.I bathed every day with my stocking full of bran and wished for the day when my skin would just be normal.I persisted with my eating regime and seeing my Naturopath who was controlling my blood pressure and progress.What I hadn’t noticed is that I had been losing weight in the process.

During the second week of this eating regime, my skin began to change colour.My body had started to calm down, so there was less itching and scratching during the nights.By the third week, I had more new skin, with less redness and irritations.By the fourth week, I was 14 kilos or 2 stones lighter and my skin was like a newborn baby.And now it was time to stop the detoxing as my blood pressure had become lower than normal. Please remember that detoxing and doing a diet with the assistance of a medically trained Doctor or Nutritionist for health reasons should be short and monitored.

My body had rid itself of the medical and food related toxins that had built up in my gut.My skin had cleared completely, with no evidence or scars on my body from what I had suffered.You would never think that I was the same person a few weeks later.There is NO pictures of me during this time – thank goodness for film in my days, where the idea of selfies was unheard of.

Once I started eating other foods again, I introduced them slowly.My Naturopath suggested it was ok to have a Cheat Day where you enjoy the foods you have removed from your diet – that is if they don’t have a negative effect on your health.For me, indulging in dairy free ice-cream and treats one day a week was no longer a problem, as the majority of the time, I was eating healthy.

I carried on with the Food Combination way of eating and found alternatives to what I had been eating growing up.I found during this process that my body was intolerant to dairy products.I had stopped drinking espresso with sugar, tea with milk and sugar, fizzy drinks and eating lots of highly saturated foods.I found it too heavy to eat meats at the same time as breads and pasta.I would choose to eat either meat or pasta with lots of salads and vegies.I no longer craved dairy milk chocolate or desserts, as well as the foods that messed up my system. My body was performing like a well-oiled machine, less sluggish, no longer irritated and not a sign of Eczema.

So dieting should not be a punishment for eating bad foods. Dieting should be part of a lifestyle change that allows you to function properly without carrying excess weights.Try to make sure you include a decent multivitamin and supplements where you feel you are not getting enough nutrients for your body.

This week, a friend of mine mentioned that he was going to do a new diet to lose some weight.We too have added excess weight over the winter months and during our pampering time off in Italy.We have also started to change our eating habits this week.I have introduced more salads and vegies with protein to our meals, less carbs as well as cutting down our portion sizes.We try to eat carbs only in the day/lunch time instead of night time.I am not starving myself but eating fruits as the snacks in between.With this slight change, I have already noticed feeling less bloated with movement on the scales.This adjustment in the daily way food is consumed is better than doing a type of diet that is unrealistic in the longer term.You could risk putting all the excess weight on again, and more.

In Summary, if you want to make a change to your diet, start my reducing the saturated fats, sugars, carbs and processed foods.Eat more greens and salads as they are lighter to digest.

If you are:
Not Gluten intolerant, try to reduce your carb intake to day time instead of dinner time, to allow your body to process it.You tend to be more active during the day than at night time.
Gluten intolernant, stay off the breads and pastas, and be aware that many sauces contain gluten.
Dairy intolerant, there are so many other options to choose from including Soya, Rice, Almond, Quorn, Tofu, Lactose Free and more.Be careful of other ingredients which have hidden lactose, including sauces, dried foods, and even some medications.
Vegan / Vegetarian, ensure you are getting enough protein from your pulses and lentils.
Diabetic, the low carb diet has worked for my friend who has suffered Type 1 most of her life.
Thyroid issues, your diet will be further restricted.
Iron deficiency, try to stay off having espresso or coffees straight after your meals as it can absorb the iron your body needs.You can get liquid iron from the health shop to add to your Orange juice for that extra boost.Ifound the liquid was easier to digest than the pill form.
Suffering with skin conditions like Eczema and Psoriasis, then finding your triggers and what doesn’t agree with your body is KEY to your personal long-term wellness. It could be gluten, dairy, sugars, spices, citrus and fish, to name a few, but not necessarily the same as another person suffering the same condition.

If you are looking to fast forward your journey to recovery, you can book your Consult Therapist session. I will help you get the results you want as I have already been on that hard journey. How Perseverance is Key

How Perseverance is Key

How Perseverance Is Key to Getting Your Glow, Confidence & Wellness back

What I love is sharing my personal About Me story with those who ask about the Essentially Lili All-Natural Skincare products.The reason I started making the Range and sharing the products with others IS because of my personal journey. The battle I had with Eczema as a Kid and Teenager and into adulthood, combined with the various types of medications I was given made my whole body a mess from inside-out.

The frustration of looking at myself in the mirror, being covered in red blotches, patches, bleeding scratches that were also weeping clear liquid was beyond painful and awful.  It made me feel self-conscious, hideous, lacking confidence and extremely isolated.

At 19, when my journey to wellness began, I remember being in a very dark and lonely space, away from everyone outside.   I only left the house to see my Naturopath who helped me get out of this medically created mess.  My skin was the worst he had ever seen. To make me feel more disheartened was getting worse at the beginning when I started my detoxification process.  However, the anguish I was going through was enough to keep me persevering, following his instructions with determination to get the results I desperately wanted.

How many of you have been ill or felt yuk and all you wanted to do was hide away from the world?

I know what it’s like.  I didn’t go anywhere in my state.  This was happening during my 3rd year of University and so I just stopped attending everything for 2 months – lectures, tutorials and social events.  I returned to sit my exams though it was no surprise I failed some that semester. I had to do an extra year of University, graduating the following year with my Bachelor of Business (Accounting) Degree.

Sometimes in life, things just go from bad to worse. They make us feel frustrated, angry, stressed out, anxious and willing to chuck in the towel.  But what if you took a different approach?  What if you just took some time out, to reflect, to write down what’s bothering you, change your strategy and do something different.  What if the results you are looking for are right in front of you?

For me, I took one month of totally detoxing my body, changing what and how I ate to bring the results I needed. It was not an easy path, but I persisted, persevered and was patient with my body’s recovery.

When I ask Customers to keep an eye on what they’re eating, wearing, touching and if their environment has changed, it’s not because I want to criticise or judge you. It may be that these factors are triggering the reactions in your body. They could be the reason for the breakouts in your skin, giving you cramps, headaches or causing you to feel irritable and cranky. By changing something, we can help speed up the process of getting well again and preventing those issues reoccurring on a frequent basis.

I really want to encourage you that Perseverance, Persistence and Patience are Key to getting your glow, your confidence and your Mojo back.  We would all love to have the overnight success, though it doesn’t always happen. Can you imagine if we only needed to go to the gym once to have an awesome Shaun T BeachBody Six Pack?   Can you imagine if you went on a diet and the next day could fit into size 8?   We can all dream of those moments, but the reality is that a lot of time, effort and persistence went into achieving these goals.

A quick summary for Getting Your Glow:
* Do not cleanse in the mornings as you could remove any new cells that were generated whilst you were getting your beauty sleep!
* Cleansing only at night time to remove any dirt and pollution from your skin.
* Some Serums & Balms contain Essential Oils that will make your skin sensitive to the sun.These should only be applied at night time.
* Applying a little of the balms as often as needed helps prevent your skin from drying out and cracking.
* Depending on the age of the child, sometimes we need to be clever and apply products on their nearby toys.
* Don’t be afraid to get rid of products that contain parabens & other nasty ingredients, no matter how much they cost.
* I recently cleared a Beauty Case full of Expensive well-known brands worth a lot of money, many of which were new & unused.I also threw out all my emergency stashes of Cortisone that were always in my drawers – just in case.
* In all things, apply common sense – drink water, wear sun hats, sun block, if something doesn’t agree with you, stop eating /drinking it, and find an alternative!
* Perseverance, Persistence & Patience are the Key to get your Glow, your confidence, your health, that job and the success you’re after.

I want to encourage you to NOT GIVE UP in your pursuits.   I too had many moments when I wanted to chuck in the towel with frustration. But instead, I want to inspire you to keep striving, persisting, pushing, reaching, changing, pursuing and wanting to go ahead. I have been encouraged by others to be myself and with that, I say the same to you:  Be patience, be kind to yourself, be genuine with those you deal with, love what you do, be honest but not a pushover and let those around you help (if they can).  And if at first you don’t succeed, dust yourself off and try again!

Essential Oils Can Help With Stress

Essential Oils Help Stress

Essential Oils can Help With Stress

Related symptoms with their amazing properties & benefits.

Today our lives are becoming more stressful as we try to juggle the demands of our homes and work environments. Whether or not we have children added to the mix, if the home & work life is not balanced, the stress levels can overwhelm us.Whilst we may not notice at the beginning, the effects of stress will start to take its toll on our Holistic being: our body and health, our mind and spirit.

Symptoms of stress can affect us in various ways.Some of us suffer with various kinds of Headaches or Migraines, whilst others could have stress related Digestive issues. Often our sleep is disrupted, making us irritable towards others. No-one wants to become a yukky version of themselves, especially towards our loved ones.Stress can make you feel frustrated, angry and sometimes like you have no control. Stress can cause us to have itchy skin, whilst in some cases, it can develop into more severe disorders like Eczema & Psoriasis.Let’s look into these with a little more detail:

Headache can include Migraine, Tension, Sugar or Sinus related thumping heads.
Migraine headaches can be worsened when stressed, going through hormonal changes, suffering anxiety or feeling deprived of sleep.These types of headaches can also make us feel nauseas.
Tension headaches can be caused by stress, bad posture, eating irregularly, withdrawing from caffeine consumption, not sleeping well, straining your eyes from prolonged computer use or watching telly.
Sugar headachescan commence when your blood sugars are too low.
Sinus headaches can commence from the season changes, pollen, congestion, making us feel stuffy and weasy. Often the symptoms can be so awful that we cannot breathe, our eyes itch and face can swell from the discomfort.

What I love about Essential Oils is that these concentrated natural blessings have so many amazing properties, and when used correctly, they can bring wonderful results.

Essential oils like Rosemary, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Chamomile, and Lavender are soothing, uplifting and provide relief for these kinds of Headaches. See more about the benefits of the Essential Oils on our Ingredientspage.As the blended concoction enters our blood stream, the Essential Oils which have anti-viral, antiseptic, sedative and anti-depressant properties can relieve and calm the systems.

Blended with a carrier oil, they can be inhaled with a travel inhaler to help bring instant relief when the symptoms arise.Or they can be massaged to the chest, the temples of your head, back of your neck and tips of your nose for inhalation, or they can be added to a warm, relaxing bath to have a pampering spa session. Just be aware that some Essential Oils are unsuitable for Kids, Expecting and Nursing Mums.

Our Blissful Minds blend was made considering that kids can get headaches too. It consists of Jasmine, Lavender, Rosemary, Frankincense & Roman Chamomile in Apricot Oil, making this product suitable for kids and Mums as well as for the bath, providing relief all year round before the symptoms become too strong.

For those who are getting headaches, fatigue and hot flushes due to the Menopausal stage of their lives, a stronger blend of Essential Oils called Changing Seasons has been made to assist.The Concentrated Serum can be used in the bath or directly onto the skin at various points, or the Inhaler can be kept in your bag to use when the symptoms arise.

For Stress that affects our digestion, we need to ensure that we watch what we eat.Cut back on those foods that aggravate your system like chillies and spices, as well as foods that are high in sugars which can cause your gut to become sluggish.Drink plenty of water to help flush out your bodies. Marjoram Essential Oil is closely related to Oregano, which is a highly concentrated source which promotes bioactive compounds.It also helps keep your heart healthy.Other Essential Oils that can assist with a sluggish digestive system are Coriander, Ginger, Nutmeg and Tarragon. Blended with a Carrier oil, these can be applied to the tummy area to bring relief.Though eating fresh in a soup would not only be a delicious alternative, but it would bring quick relief to your digestion.

Note: Only a Clinical Aromatherapist should be able to instruct ingesting Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils.Please seek a professional’s assistance if you choose to ingest Essential Oils.

Stress affecting our sleep keeps our minds ticking all night, stopping us from getting the rest we need. Insomnia is when we find it hard to fall asleep, or we lay awake for too long. If this happens 3 nights per week, for 3 months or more, it would be considered as chronic.Whilst sleeping pills can be considered for a short-term solution, they can have other side effects over a longer period including feelings of drowsiness.Alternatively, natural sleep aids with little or no side effects would be better in the long run. Some of the symptoms for sleep deprivation include:
• Finding it difficult to fall asleep when you lie down;
• Being unable to stay asleep throughout the night;
• Waking up too early and having trouble going back to sleep;
• Feeling low in energy, tired or fatigued when you wake up;
• Not feeling like you have had any rest when you get up;
• Feeling irritable, aggressive or moody throughout the day;
• Finding it hard to concentrate at work/school;
• Your work/school relationships can become affected by feeling cranky and overtired.

Essential Oils blended in a carrier oil can be used in the home with diffusers or Aromasticks to assist in making the mood more pleasant at home. Blending Lavender, Bergamot, Mandarin, Ylang Ylang are amongst those Essential Oils which can help your sleeping patterns with time.Using these in an Inhaler to reduce the Anxiety levels can also bring calmness to the mind when you are on the go.

For more information about the Congestion & Sinuses products, we make Concentrated Serums which parents have been using in the bath to help their little ones with congestion and coughs. The carrier oil makes the products safe to use in the bath, which are Kids Breathe Easy Concentrate and Adults Breathe Easy Concentrate is the stronger blend with Peppermint & Vetiver. This has helped my husband snore less at night time when I have been able to place the concentrated serum on the tip of his nose which equals Happy Wife!

The Pick Me Up (Adults & Kids) Anxiety Inhalers will be available on the webpage soon.The blend will help calm the nerves when feeling overwhelmed, anxious and stressed out.

Lastly on the list is when Stress affects our skin. Our hormones can become imbalanced as the blood flow to our skin, hair, teeth and throughout the body can be somewhat hindered.A common reaction to stress is Eczema, Acne, Hives, Psoriasis, Rosacea, gum disease and hair loss. Being aware of when our body is not reacting well is key to getting back in control.A lot of times, controlling the foods we eat can affect our body’s recovery process.

Essentials blended with Butters and Vegetable Oils that are rich in Vitamins and healing properties are a wonderful way to bring relief and restoration to skin that has been affected by stress.In our Skin Assistance category, we have a range of products suitable for Kids to Adults for Eczema, Dry Skin, Rosacea, Psoriasis (including the scalp). We have had some amazing Before & After results using the All-Natural Skincare products, which have been shared on the Reviews & Testimonials’.Some of our Happy Customers have been featured at the beginning of the Testimonials page, which is awesome. If you wish to be included, please send me a recent picture of yourself without makeup with your testimonial.

You can also refer to the previous Blog: Understanding Your Bodyfor the signs before they manifest in your body, as they will need a longer time period to resolve.

Note: I will be working on making a Blend this year to aid digestion as well as a balm to help with menstrual pains.Let me know if these kinds of products would interest you.

Miracles in a Jar

Miracles in A Jar

Miracles in Jars

That soothe, restore, bring relief & help resolve issues
without side effects, but give you back your confidence.

Have you ever just wanted to look like the Super Model advertising the brand of skincare, makeup, clothing and hair products?Have you ever thought to yourself, ‘If I buy that, I will look like them?’Well, that’s what I used to do when I was a teenager, covered from head to thighs in weeping and bleeding Eczema.

I remember feeling hideous and noticing that people stared at me, a LOT. It made me feel insecure and lacking confidence, as I tried to go about my business unnoticed.

During my youth,I used all sorts of medications, cortisone, antibiotics, natural treatments, suction cups, Chinese & Herbal medicines, Acupuncture, exercise, Naturopaths, Homeopathy and finally Aromatherapy.When I suggest to my customers, ‘I know what you mean, I have tried a lot of methods to find a solution’, I’m definitely not kidding.

I imagine what it would have been like if someone had given my parents a small ‘Pot of Magic’ when I was growing up.How that may have changed my life, my experiences, my confidence and ultimately how I felt about myself. To think how being ill can have such a debilitating effect on our self-esteem, we can only really overcome this with the love and support of family & friends.

For me, the all-natural Nourishing Face Balm has kept my skin free of Eczema, dryness, irritation and redness.It keeps me moisturised all year round despite the weather conditions.During the Swiss winters, my skin is soft and fresh, whilst the summers, it’s hydrated and nourished even after a day out in the sun.It’s definitely maintained the youthfulness of my own skin as I approach the next ‘decade’, more so than when I was in my teens.

Now let’s fast forward to the past few years of making miracles in a jar.I try not to give high expectations in case people are disappointed, so I try to be a bit more realistic idea of when they should see results.What I love is when the results come even faster than what I was anticipating!The first testimonials were from women using my Signature product, Nourishing Face Balm. It had calmed Rosacea for women almost overnight, and for others, it had cleared Eczema and redness around the nose area very quickly.

I initially made Renew Balm for Eczema and Oasis Balm for Psoriasis for a lady who was suffering in Albania. I asked friends of mine to translate the ingredients and instructions in order for her to understand what to do with the products. Apparently she tried it once and gave up.

Unsure if the product was good or not, I sampled out what I had to others.The feedback for the Renew Balm was mixed between those that had quick results and others who didn’t’ want to persist with trying. Oasis Balm I used myself to moisturise my hands, when another lady based in Switzerland asked if she could have some.I sent her the remaining 5ml sample pot and waited.The next day, she posted before and after photos of the Psoriasis that was on her elbows which had almost disappeared. The transformation was so evident, it was hard to believe the difference was from the night before.This 5ml sample was enough to change not only her life, but that of her father’s in Ireland.I was more than delighted for her that the product had worked so quickly!

Another lady asked me about the Cool Eyes, which contains the Cucumber Oil and Myrrh Essential Oil.The Cucumber smells so fresh whilst the Myrrh is thick and gooey like molasses.I explained how to use the Cool Eyes in the mornings around the eye frames.

Soon after obtaining it and applying it, she told me that she had the skin condition around the eyes called Milia.Milium cysts are like a small white bump which can appear on the nose and cheeks around the eyes.They occur when keratin becomes trapped beneath the surface of the skin.

This condition had gone down since using the Cool Eyes balm.I was chuffed with that result.Another customer wrote that the Cool Eyes prevented her eyes from being irritated like other products and brands had.

I made Evanesce Balm to help someone who suffered with Acne spots and breakouts on their back.Knowing it would be difficult to apply the Magic Serum in some parts of the body, I wrote the recipe for Evanesce Balm, choosing a positive name which means to ‘disappear’ like Magic!I sent the product abroad and waited for feedback – I am not sure the product was used consistently to get the results. Others asked if I had something to help with Acne, and the sampling began again.The feedback came rather quickly – cyst type acne had cleared up, persistent spots reduced and breakouts kept under control.The age group ranged from 10 to 30s, as the ingredients were gentle enough for a youngster’s skin, as well as those who seem to be going through post-natal hormonal changes too.

Go Molly came about when a friend asked if I could help with Flying Warts, otherwise known as Molluscum Contagious.I kept visualising how I would apply this if it were on me and thus the instructions for application came about.With persistence, my friend applied as much as her child would let her. And they slowly but surely vanished. Another mum heard about the product and got a bottle for her twins and applied as much as she could. These poor kids had been going to get them cut off for over 1 year and she was beyond sick of this condition.A few weeks later she called and asked for another bottle and brought the kids for me to meet.Raising his T-Shirt to show me, there were only a few left on his tummy – the rest had disappeared.

For me, the best part of what I do is helping others.I love researching and writing recipes of the products I make in order to help the people who ask me for help.Sometimes I get it right the first time, whilst other times I have to keep blending until the consistency of what I want is reached.The feedback and reviews together with the messages asking how to apply when the original instruction doesn’t work is all part of what I offer.It makes me feel happy knowing there is one less person with low self-esteem, yet one MORE who has found confidence and a glow.

After-all, isn’t that what life should be about?Being able to face whatever challenges you have, with your best foot forward, knowing that how you feel on the inside is mirrored on the outside.

So if you need a boost in your confidence, get your miracle in a jar from here:whether it’s for your dry cracked feet, Acne Rosacea, Irritated skin, for your kids and their delicate faces, or just because you want something that is all natural.And should you want to discuss further,you can book a Consultation session for a holistic approach to well-being.

Favourite Vegetable Oils

Sunflowers in Zurich

Favourite Vegetable Oils

Sunflower is one of the richest Carrier Oils with so many benefits.
These allow Essential Oils to be applied directly & safely
to the skin without causing irritations.

The Vegetable Oils used for Product making are not the kind you would normally buy at the Supermarket. Those in the stores are exposed to direct Sunlight, shop lighting and heating which can cause the oils to degrade. Extra Virgin Oil is normally stored in dark glass bottles, so taking this from the back of the row is a good idea!

As our bodies’ cell walls and membranes contain quite a lot of fats and oils, it makes sense for us to use nutritious oils in our foods and skincare products. These will help us maintain the fluidity of our cells.

Did you know that using oils as a cleanser actually helps your skin?The oil softens any sebum which
may be blocking the pores, allowing these to be removed.

There are plenty of Vegetable Oils to choose from, which vary in colour, natural fragrance, and price. Familiar oils include Apricot Kernel, Sweet Almond and Coconut. These are found in many skincare products which help repair and calm sensitive skin.

The following Vegetable Oils are some that I use in the Essentially Lili range because I love what they do for the skin:

Argan (Argania Spinosa) originates from Southern Morocco which makes this product quite expensive.It is yellow in colour and has a lot more Vitamin E (Tocopherol) than olive oil. It is resistant to oxidation with good free radical scavengers.It’s great for damaged and mature skin as it assists the restructuring of the cells.

Avocado (Persea Gratissima) contains essential fatty acids that our body needs but cannot produce. These help create and rebuild new cells, contain omega-3, omega-6 fatty acids, Linoleic Acid (LA), Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA). So if this is what Avocado does for our bodies from the inside, the outside
is going to love it just as much.

Avocado originally came from Central America, but now is grown around the world.It is rich in Vitamins A, B1, B2, D, E, and Beta carotene. Classified as a monosaturated oil, Avocado is best suited for dry skin conditions in topical applications. It should be green in colour if unadulterated and it comes from the flesh of the fruit. It is great for rehydrating, regenerating and helping the elasticity of the skin.With other carrier oils, Avocado enriches the vitamin and protein content.

Calendula (Calendula Officinialis) has anti-inflammatory properties and promotes wound healing.It is used in sun and after-sun products, as well as to help children with nappy rashes, grazes and Mums who are nursing.

Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis) comes from the seeds of the plants which are grown worldwide.It is very rich in Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA), a fatty substance used for skin conditions like Eczema. Evening Primrose is used in various skin products, creams, bath oils and hair conditioners as it helps the skin’s elasticity and therefore repairing damaged, dry and aging skin. Taking supplements can also be used to help calm skin conditions from within.

Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) is actually a liquid wax. Jojoba resembles the sebum of the skin very closely and is naturally rich in Vitamin E.This helps promotes the glow in our complexions, as this oil is very light and is absorbed quickly.

Sunflower Oil (Helianthus annuus) has very little scent compared to other vegetable /carrier oils, and absorbs easily into the skin, leaving very little residue. Sunflower Oil has high concentrates of Vitamins A, B, D and E, as well as minerals, lecithin, insulin.It is a great product for the skin, adding UV protection qualities together with the unsaturated essential fatty acids. Sunflower is amongst the ingredients found in Sun Kissed Serum to help with the effects of the sun for those that have been ‘kissed’.

Wheatgerm Oil (Triticum sativum) is obtained from the germ of the wheat. It is extremely high content in Vitamin E which is a natural antioxidant and preservative, together with essential fatty acids, Vitamins A, B & D. Wheatgerm helps promote circulation and increase blood flow, which is great for damaged or scarred skin. It helps form new cells to improve appearance of skin, and to help repair sun damage to the skin.

Wheatgerm is found in our Vitamin Rich Range to help with skin that has Acne / Rosacea, has been irritated, damaged and needs some love and affection. The Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm and Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm and Evanesce Balm for those that have Acne which needs treatment.

Vitamin E (Tocopherol Acetate) is a natural preservative and a strong antioxidant. It is used in various skincare products such as acne, lip balms, anti-wrinkle, cleansers and peels for sensitive skin.

What I find amazing is how much goodness these Vegetable Oils have. Their wonderful properties boost our skin’s reserves with goodness and help maintain the elasticity whilst promoting cell regeneration. Combined with the Essential Oils, there really is no need to include other unnatural ingredients to our blends.In future blogs, I can share more information about how wonderful these Vegetable Oils are, in the quest of choosing the best ingredients for making the Essentially Lili Skincare products. If there are any Oils that you would like me to include, please let me know below.

Testimonials

Customer Satisfaction is the Ultimate Success Story..

I’m sure we all love when someone goes the extra mile to provide genuine Customer Service, and that person makes you feel special and important to them.The service industry used to always be about ensuring customers were looked after.We gave the best service which was then communicated to our managers at Performance Review time.

Ironically this seems to be missing lately as businesses are more interested in making their money, rather than connecting with those they are helping.Some situations are so irritating.For example, when you pick up the phone to resolve a crisis or situation, and the person at the other end isn’t interested in helping you fix the problem. Usually escalation is the only way to have these kinds of problems sorted.

I remember a time whilst travelling in Europe, I wanted to ask the lady at the Customer Service Desk about the trains.Whilst I was asking the question, she proceeded to shut the blinds in my face, her eyes facing downwards as she spoke into her microphone, ‘I’m closed!’ Oh the shock on my face, thinking how can she be sitting at the customer service desk when she didn’t want to help anyone?

This was just so against the grain of what I had been doing all my years working for Blue Chip companies around the globe.Communication is important, as well as being honest and offering assistance to help resolve situations.In my opinion, this makes the best kind of employees, and are the type that Clients and Managers always like to speak positively about.

At Essentially Lili, we have heard good and bad things, all of which are to help improve and build rapport, reputation and credibility.In our previous Blogs, we don’t always get things right the first time and with feedback, we are able to change, evolve and improve … or in some cases, scrap altogether!

What we love the best is when someone is brave enough to ask for help. They send us their close up photos of their skin, including the blokes who add, ‘Lili, here are my pics without makeup on!’ … We love that everyone is able to join in our humour!!

Once their products arrive, they follow instructions on when and how to apply and any other advice given.When the note comes back to say ‘OMG I love your product, my skin feels amazing, my feet look better than ever before, the Rosacea / Eczema has calmed down, the Acne has vanished, the Menopause – what Menopause?’… This has been the best Testimonial and ultimate feel good story for us.

I recently met with a customer who took a risk when asking about my non-commercial products earlier this year.She tried it, changed her routines and saw an improvement over a very short period of time.She then moved on from the problem solving Magic Serum to the lush Frankincense Face Serum.She looks Absolutely Fabulous and for me, showed Customer Satisfaction at a wonderful level! This made us both feel happy to see how a little bit of change can make a massive difference to how one looks and feels!

With an overall holistic approach, we try to help our customers achieve the results they are looking for.We believe that a happy, stress-free, well-nourished and hydrated body reflects on the outside with clear skin, a fresh mind and a body that functions according to its purpose.One that is out of balance, stressed, not well-nourished is like a car that hasn’t had a regular oil change, which chugs along inefficiently.Please don’t get us wrong – we all have moments like this, where we are stressed and out of sync.Though finding the balance that works for us individually is what we try to achieve.
