Loving Your Feet

Loving Your Feet

Why is that we often forget to take care of our feet?

Our feet are often the last thing we think about when we take care of ourselves. Do you forget to take care of your feet until you’re about to go on holidays? Or do you wait until they’re dried out, cracked, smelling and aching?I honestly think that we take our hard-working feet for granted.We stand, walk, hike, dance, run, excerise, and they take our weight from place to place in our shoes which are often too tight, low, high or non-supportive. How do we cope, remain active, play sport or compete when they hurt or ache? At what point do we stop and give them a whole lotta love with pampering and massage?

Day to day, after showering or following our morning routine, we make sure we put on our skincare, fix and style our hair and get dressed for the occasion before rushing out the door.If you’re wearing closed shoes, no-one really needs to see the condition of your feet, unless you’re wearing fancy open shoes or heels.Are you guilty of this? I can tell you I’m guilty of rushing out the door with my laces undone, tying them up in the lift to the garage!!! But let me share my yukky feet story. I hope you can relate to this and I would love for your honest feedback too.

I recently stumbled across those hideous pics of my feet the last time I went for a pedicure in 2014. Don’t get me wrong, I loved going to see the Beautician and spending time with my friend whilst getting pampered. What I didn’t like is how embarrassing my feet’s heels were, cracked and bleeding, hurting like hell and ugly to look at. The beautician exclaimed, ‘OMG Lili, what happened to your feet?’as she puts on a mask to start grinding the dead skin on them. Urgh how disgusting, no matter what I did, they were always dry. That yukky habit of picking, itching, scratching, picking, pulling, rubbing, and ripping that then caused bleeding and pain had exposed me, and I felt awful showing my feet in public.

While she blasted my dead skin off, I just wanted to be sick and puke, or crawl into a hole from my embarrassment.And of course, she needed extra time to get passed the layers, cutting my heels by accident, which only added to my existing pain. Applying some feet product to my skin, she finished off with some colour nail polish, but my heels were already drying out by the time I arrived home. That’s just crazy, after all that time being pampered, why were my feet still dry?

I tried many products over the years, from cheap Supermarket brands to expensive ones. Some of them were so icky to put on and smelt awful, yet I would apply because my feet needed them.I just didn’t like the results, irrespective of how religiously I treated my feet. Can you relate to that?

When I started making Essentially Lili products in 2015, I decided that feet had to be included in the range. Shea Butter & Cocoa Butter are used to help provide the hydration to the skin. I experimented with blends. I accidentally spilled the liquid version of peppermint aero onto the stove which made our apartment smell so deliciously fragrant for quite some time!! I tried a number of blended versions to achieve the right buttery mix that would just melt onto the skin when it came into contact with my body’s natural temperature for the most effective application. This was the beginning of Peppermint Feet. It’s a definite favourite in Australia as another package heads out to Melbourne amongst other goodies. Not only does it get rid of smelly feet, athlete’s foot or fungal infections, it really hydrates the heels, keeping the skin soft and hydrated.

Did you know that Peppermint Essential Oil is not suggested for Expecting or Nursing Mums? When a newly expecting lady asked me to help with her feet, I created the new blend using Tangerine instead of Peppermint essential oil, making it suitable for expecting and nursing mums. My daughter and I wanted to have a cute name for the new addition to the Feet Range. We came up with Tango Twinkle Toes as we imagined the expectant and nursing mum wanting to dance with her little ones, which is what I did with both my babies!

The last product to be included to the range is Lime Foot Repair . The difference with this one is that it contains Beeswax, which seals the hydration into the skin.You don’t need much to keep the feet soft, but if you have stubborn problems, I suggest adding a little more and wearing socks to keep the product close to the skin whilst you sleep.

This leads me to this next wonderful story. I was contacted by a concerned wife about her husband’s feet.They were aching, causing him agony and discomfort to walk. I suggested using either the Peppermint Feet or Lime Foot Repair depending on his preference of oils, scents and overall goal for his heels. Instead he opted to take them both, using Peppermint Feet in the mornings and Lime Foot Repair in the evenings. A few weeks later, he sent me before and after photos with this remarkable testimonial.

From Andrew G, Zurich: “With my religiously male application techniques – not every day, often missing a few in between and several false starts, it is still no surprise that my heels look so good. Including the use of a pumice stone and repeated application of Essentially Lili Lime Foot Repair the difference is easy to see. At the start, I had cracked heels with cuts so deep they bled and were so painful I could barely walk. Within 3 weeks my heels were healed and my feet were looking stellar. I used Essentially Lili Lime Foot Repair at night and Peppermint Feet in the morning. Now the pain is gone, my cracks have disappeared and there’s a newfound spring in my step.”

What an amazing result in such a short period of time … and how many men would ever admit to needing this kind of help for their feet? Check out his pictures in the upper gallery – before and after using the products!!

Another testimonial about happy heels from Sevi, Geneva: My pregnant friend in Greece is very happy with Lime Foot Repair and keeps on using it every day. She has seen a huge improvement in the quality of her skin on the feet and toes. I must admit my daughter and I are huge fans of the Lime Foot Repair as well. After bathing and applying the Natural Baby Moisturising Oil, she insists on putting Lime Foot Repair on her feet. We both love the texture and scent of this product. I am a forever customer of Essentially Lili, once tried, you can never go back to anything else. Keep up the great products Lili, you are doing an amazing job! .”

This testimonial was from lovely Emily, Basel, who just wanted to try something different. The Tango Twinkle Toes healed my dry scaly heels during my Camino de Santiago walk in Spain. As I wanted to carry only a few items as possible, I also used it for the rest of my body and it worked great!! It isn’t
oily or greasy.

Judith from Zurich wrote:The Tango Twinkle Toes is the only foot balm that has had any lasting positive effect on my feet! Absolutely love it! It was so nice to use a completely natural product whilst pregnant too.

Who wouldn’t love to have results like these? I know that I love reading these kinds of happy testimonials, every time!! Check out the Before Pictures in the Gallery: Before & After Andew’s Feet, Yukky Feet at Beautician’s, Peppermint Leaves, Airport Check-In.

As mentioned above, there are plenty of brands you can get from the stores that may treat your skin. What I try to do with my products is give you long-term results, and make your feet feel great all the time. Depending on how bad the condition of your heels are, you’ll need to gently scrape away the dead skin before having your shower.

You can also make a gentle scrub using sea-salt, or Himalayan Pink Salts, coarse sugar, Olive Oil and some lemon juice. Mix the contents together in a container and gently scrub your legs and feet, before washing it off in the shower.I use this mix (without the lemon) to soften my hands after washing the dishes too. You only have to mix up a small amount in order to keep it for around a week before making a fresh batch.

As stated in the Newsletter, I’m discounting the Feet Range this month so that you can get your Pot of Magic and take care of your feet, all year round. Remember, your feet need just as much love as the rest of you, and if they’re aching, hurting or even smelling, get them sorted, as naturally as you can.

Be one of the many who add their testimonials to the Essentially Lili page, sharing your own story and experience with what helped you.This is what I love the most about what I do. Helping you overcome not only your skin concerns, but finding the confidence to be the best version of yourself to Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful.

Men’s Personal Grooming

Men's Personal Grooming

Men’s Personal Grooming

Men’s Personal Grooming

Often we assume that only women enjoy looking after & pampering themselves.Though lately, the trend for Men’s personal grooming, whether it’s for their beards and faces is a lot more popular. When I was young, I used to watch my Dad foam his face with the brush and then shave his face, before slapping on Tabac Cologne. My Dad maintained his curly hair short, kept his fingernails filed, trimmed and clean.It was part of his military training as a young man in Italy.For me, this is what men were supposed to do.

Today, all the additional aspects of Men’s personal grooming is cool and trendy, and shows that a man loves to take care of himself beyond just shaving.Even TV shows like ‘Suits’ shows the character Louis Litt in a Mud Bath as part of his relaxation therapy!!Women love the appearance of a man who is well groomed from hair to feet.Made more popular when the man is fit, healthy and has a matching six-pack like Magic Mike’s team.

When I began making the skincare products, my husband thought mine was a bit too ‘girly’ for him.Going through my list of Essential Oils and their amazing benefits , I developed the Hydrating Face Balm with its masculine scent which reminded both of us of the aftershave called ‘Aramis’. Sandalwood (Amyris Balsamifera) was included in this men’s over 30’s balm, not only for this wonderful aroma, but because of what it does to the mind and skin. When applied to the face in the form of the Balm & Serum, it can encourages the anti-aging process, promoting new skin cells and the rejuvenation process to continue. The Serum and Men’s Face Balm All-Natural products are offered as a Bundle on our webpage – Mens’ Aftershave Care. The Vitamin Rich Mens Face Balm which also contains Sandalwood, assists those men whose skin is irritated with Acne / Rosacea.

As mentioned in the Newsletter, there are some amazing benefits with using Sandalwood , which includes:
• having a calming effect on our well-being and mental health. It can provide a sense of clarity from its therapeutic benefits;
• It can help boost our memory, particularly if you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed out;
• Added to massage oil, Sandalwood can increase your libido and energy levels, working as a natural aphrodisiac;
• It can work as an Astringent, motivating your skin tissues to have minor contractions, which help soothe, calm and tighten the skin;
• The antioxidants found in Sandalwood can assist with reducing damage caused by free radicals which can cause the early aging process.For this reason, Sandalwood was included to the Mens Range.

Additional to the Men’s Personal Grooming products for Body & Feet are the Peppermint Feet & Mint Body Butter.Made using Peppermint Essential Oil with its cooling effect, they smell so divine you may be tempted to want to eat it.Not only does the balm hydrate and maintaining the skin, but it also keeps Athlete’s foot, fungal infections and odours at bay.The Mint Body butter has assisted with reduction of scarring whilst hydrating the skin,especially after being out in the sunshine.

If your hair thinning out concerns you, there are a few options you could do.
• First, find a natural shampoo and conditioner that contains Biotin, otherwise known as Vitamin B7. This water-soluble vitamin is part of the vitamin B complex, which assists the strengthening process for your hair, nails and skin. It can also be taken internally in a B-complex supplement.
• Second, Evening Primrose Oil which is rich in essential Omega-6 Fatty acids GLA can also be effective with fighting against hair loss.This can either be consumed in capsule form or the Vegetable oil can be massaged directly to the scalp with essential oils. For more information about Evening Primrose Oil for hair growth, see: Hair Loss Revolution.
Black Seed Oil has been used by a close friend of mine to encourage hair growth. It can naturally boost the hair and scalp’s health is different ways.It contains nigellone and has antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it can stop dandruff, dryness as well as improve the hair’s overall health simultaneously.
Rosemary essential oils helps to stimulate hair growth. When applied on the scalp diluted in a Vegetable oil like Evening Primrose & Black Seed Oil, rosemary essential oil helps stimulate hair growth, prevent baldness, slows down the greying process, as well as treating dandruff and dry scalp.

Your Men’s Personal grooming should include night time cleansing using Cypress Cleansing Balm to help boost your skin’s appearance. In a short space of time, your skin will feel lifted and refreshed. To soften the delicate skin around your eyes, you can use an all-natural balm Cool Eyes with Cucumber Oil, which is hydrating and soothing. And on a weekly basis, enjoy a gentle exfoliant and clay mask.Treat your skin whilst chillaxing on the weekend, to help draw out any impurities and remove dead skin cells. Ensure you get the right Coloured Clays for your skin type.

Personal fitness and training, with relaxation, yoga and massage. What if you could find a ‘one-stop-shop’ for all of these? I recently had the pleasure of meeting Matthew from Sydney, who is based in Zurich where he helps does a combination of personal training with massage. For anyone who books a session from Essentially Lili, he will be offering you a 10% discount – but be sure to mention Essentially Lili when booking your slot to get the discount. For more details, contact Matt at Healwell – Massage Angels.

In Summary, be the man that isn’t embarrassed to go the extra mile to look your best.Your body, your hair, your skin will all thank you. You will be able to enjoy a youthful appearance well into your mid-life years. Other helpful tips for keeping that gorgeous masculine glow – ensure you don’t use super-hot water on your face, cleanse only at night time, drink plenty of water and keep your face protected from the sun.

We All Want Pampering Fun

Italian Adventure

We All Want Pampering Fun

We All Want Pampering Fun – whether it’s travelling, shopping, spa treatments and massages…

Ask any woman what she loves to do and I bet you being pampered is on the top. Whether it’s traveling, going out shopping, buying something that makes her look great, feel wonderful about herself and smells amazing.

Ask any man what he loves to do – get a shave and haircut with head massage, have a deep tissue massage, manicure & pedicure together with a session at the gym. For kids, it’s going on holidays and getting new stuff!!!  Well, at least that’s my kids!!

We all love that massage to relax and release tension in our bodies especially if it’s done by someone who knows how to do it well.  We love having our feet pedicured and maintained for the spring and summer seasons.  If we are not sensitive to the heat, we definitely love sessions in the steam room and having facials. Relaxing spa baths, swimming at the beach, and eating great food are all what I would include in pampering treatments.

This April, we recently ventured for a short Spring break with the family to the Central part of Italy. We flew into Naples, took a bus drive along the windy roads to Sorrento and had an even more crazy coastal drive to Amalfi & back to Positano.  We walked up to the crater of Mt. Vesuvius and then explored the ruins excavated at Pompeii.  The kids swam at Amalfi and Sorrento Beaches, where we explored the many tiny cobbled streets filled with a variety of stores.

Caught the fast trains to Naples and onwards to glorious Rome. Here we spent our last days exploring the Colosseum, Vatican Museum & St Peter’s Basilica.  We had a Melbourne reunion with my friend at Trevi, where we threw 3 Coins in the Fountain, making our wishes.  We did lots of walking, enjoying the sunshine and eating sooo much food, OMG!!  You really need to be on a diet beforehand so that you have space for all the yummy food & gelato that is available in Italy.

On every trip we make, we always bring our pampering products with us. On this trip, it included Mozz Off for mosquitoes in case the kids were bitten by those bugs.  We had sunblock & caps to ensure no-one burnt their faces in the averaging 25 deg heat.  We had our moisturising balms to keep our skin hydrated all day, Lime Foot Repair to keep the feet soft and free from cracking; the Cypress Cleansing Balm to remove any dirt and pollution in the evenings, as well as Green clay for a session of pampering during the trip.  It was also wonderful seeing our kids apply their own Natural Baby Moisturising Oil at the end of each day to keep their skin hydrated!  All of us had something to take care of our skin, as well as drinking plenty of water to keep our bodies hydrated from within.

The Lime Foot Repair has kept my feet the softest they have ever been, considering how bad they were before I started making all-natural skincare products. I have been applying it to where I managed to get blisters from my new hiking shoes, which were rubbing on the tops of my toes. With only 2 applications the signs of the blisters are almost completely gone!

With Mother’s Day approaching on Sunday 13th of May, you can ensure you get your loved ones something to help pamper themselves. You can create your own package of goodies to include a little Coloured Clays, Geranium Hands & Body Tango Twinkle Toes or Lime Foot Repair. There’s also Jazz Body Butter which includes Lemongrass & Jasmine Essential Oils, with Cool Eyes & Cypress Cleansing Balm.

For those that love to boost their skin, try the Frankincense Face Serum with Nourishing Face Balm .For the over 50’s Classy women, there’s the Precious Diamond Era package with Diamond Era Balm and Diamond Era Serum .These all-natural products are made with Love to help you take care of your skin, rejuvenating, repairing and refreshing how you feel.Most of our products are suitable for expecting and nursing mums but not all.Please check the ingredients first. You can order your Pot of Magic before the 10th of May to ensure it arrives in time for Mother’s Day.

And remember, for maintaining your glow:
* Rinse your face with warm water only in the mornings. Gently pat it dry before applying your face balm. Do not cleanse in the mornings as you could remove any new cells that were generated whilst you were getting your beauty sleep!
* You should only cleanse gently at night time to remove any dirt and pollution from your skin.
* Some Serums & Balms contain Essential Oils that will make your skin sensitive to the sun. These should only be applied at night time.
* Applying a little of the balms as often as needed helps prevent your skin from drying out and cracking.
* Kids should also keep their skin hydrated, especially after being in the sun.
* In all things, apply common sense – drink water, wear sun hats, sun block, if something doesn’t agree with you, stop eating /drinking it, and find alternatives!

I will be updating the Photo Gallery with our products at these various locations. If you would like to add yours, please send them in.

Essential Oils Can Help With Stress

Essential Oils Help Stress

Essential Oils can Help With Stress related symptoms.

Essential Oils can Help With Stress related symptoms with their amazing properties & benefits.

Today our lives are becoming more stressful as we try to juggle the demands of our homes and work environments. Whether or not we have children added to the mix, if the home & work life is not balanced, the stress levels can overwhelm us.Whilst we may not notice at the beginning, the effects of stress will start to take its toll on our Holistic being: our body and health, our mind and spirit.

Symptoms of stress can affect us in various ways.Some of us suffer with various kinds of Headaches or Migraines, whilst others could have stress related Digestive issues. Often our sleep is disrupted, making us irritable towards others. No-one wants to become a yukky version of themselves, especially towards our loved ones.Stress can make you feel frustrated, angry and sometimes like you have no control. Stress can cause us to have itchy skin, whilst in some cases, it can develop into more severe disorders like Eczema & Psoriasis.Let’s look into these with a little more detail:

Headache can include Migraine, Tension, Sugar or Sinus related thumping heads.
Migraine headaches can be worsened when stressed, going through hormonal changes, suffering anxiety or feeling deprived of sleep.These types of headaches can also make us feel nauseas.
Tension headaches can be caused by stress, bad posture, eating irregularly, withdrawing from caffeine consumption, not sleeping well, straining your eyes from prolonged computer use or watching telly.
Sugar headachescan commence when your blood sugars are too low.
Sinus headaches can commence from the season changes, pollen, congestion, making us feel stuffy and weasy. Often the symptoms can be so awful that we cannot breathe, our eyes itch and face can swell from the discomfort.

What I love about Essential Oils is that these concentrated natural blessings have so many amazing properties, and when used correctly, they can bring wonderful results.

Essential oils like Rosemary, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Chamomile, and Lavender are soothing, uplifting and provide relief for these kinds of Headaches. See more about the benefits of the Essential Oils on our Ingredientspage.As the blended concoction enters our blood stream, the Essential Oils which have anti-viral, antiseptic, sedative and anti-depressant properties can relieve and calm the systems.

Blended with a carrier oil, they can be inhaled with a travel inhaler to help bring instant relief when the symptoms arise.Or they can be massaged to the chest, the temples of your head, back of your neck and tips of your nose for inhalation, or they can be added to a warm, relaxing bath to have a pampering spa session. Just be aware that some Essential Oils are unsuitable for Kids, Expecting and Nursing Mums.

Our Blissful Minds blend was made considering that kids can get headaches too. It consists of Jasmine, Lavender, Rosemary, Frankincense & Roman Chamomile in Apricot Oil, making this product suitable for kids and Mums as well as for the bath, providing relief all year round before the symptoms become too strong.

For those who are getting headaches, fatigue and hot flushes due to the Menopausal stage of their lives, a stronger blend of Essential Oils called Changing Seasons has been made to assist.The Concentrated Serum can be used in the bath or directly onto the skin at various points, or the Inhaler can be kept in your bag to use when the symptoms arise.

For Stress that affects our digestion, we need to ensure that we watch what we eat.Cut back on those foods that aggravate your system like chillies and spices, as well as foods that are high in sugars which can cause your gut to become sluggish.Drink plenty of water to help flush out your bodies. Marjoram Essential Oil is closely related to Oregano, which is a highly concentrated source which promotes bioactive compounds.It also helps keep your heart healthy.Other Essential Oils that can assist with a sluggish digestive system are Coriander, Ginger, Nutmeg and Tarragon. Blended with a Carrier oil, these can be applied to the tummy area to bring relief.Though eating fresh in a soup would not only be a delicious alternative, but it would bring quick relief to your digestion.

Note: Only a Clinical Aromatherapist should be able to instruct ingesting Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils.Please seek a professional’s assistance if you choose to ingest Essential Oils.

Stress affecting our sleep keeps our minds ticking all night, stopping us from getting the rest we need. Insomnia is when we find it hard to fall asleep, or we lay awake for too long. If this happens 3 nights per week, for 3 months or more, it would be considered as chronic.Whilst sleeping pills can be considered for a short-term solution, they can have other side effects over a longer period including feelings of drowsiness.Alternatively, natural sleep aids with little or no side effects would be better in the long run. Some of the symptoms for sleep deprivation include:
• Finding it difficult to fall asleep when you lie down;
• Being unable to stay asleep throughout the night;
• Waking up too early and having trouble going back to sleep;
• Feeling low in energy, tired or fatigued when you wake up;
• Not feeling like you have had any rest when you get up;
• Feeling irritable, aggressive or moody throughout the day;
• Finding it hard to concentrate at work/school;
• Your work/school relationships can become affected by feeling cranky and overtired.

Essential Oils blended in a carrier oil can be used in the home with diffusers or Aromasticks to assist in making the mood more pleasant at home. Blending Lavender, Bergamot, Mandarin, Ylang Ylang are amongst those Essential Oils which can help your sleeping patterns with time.Using these in an Inhaler to reduce the Anxiety levels can also bring calmness to the mind when you are on the go.

For more information about the Congestion & Sinuses products, we make Concentrated Serums which parents have been using in the bath to help their little ones with congestion and coughs. The carrier oil makes the products safe to use in the bath, which are Kids Breathe Easy Concentrate and Adults Breathe Easy Concentrate is the stronger blend with Peppermint & Vetiver. This has helped my husband snore less at night time when I have been able to place the concentrated serum on the tip of his nose which equals Happy Wife!

The Pick Me Up (Adults & Kids) Anxiety Inhalers will be available on the webpage soon.The blend will help calm the nerves when feeling overwhelmed, anxious and stressed out.

Lastly on the list is when Stress affects our skin. Our hormones can become imbalanced as the blood flow to our skin, hair, teeth and throughout the body can be somewhat hindered.A common reaction to stress is Eczema, Acne, Hives, Psoriasis, Rosacea, gum disease and hair loss. Being aware of when our body is not reacting well is key to getting back in control.A lot of times, controlling the foods we eat can affect our body’s recovery process.

Essentials blended with Butters and Vegetable Oils that are rich in Vitamins and healing properties are a wonderful way to bring relief and restoration to skin that has been affected by stress.In our Skin Assistance category, we have a range of products suitable for Kids to Adults for Eczema, Dry Skin, Rosacea, Psoriasis (including the scalp). We have had some amazing Before & After results using the All-Natural Skincare products, which have been shared on the Reviews & Testimonials’.Some of our Happy Customers have been featured at the beginning of the Testimonials page, which is awesome. If you wish to be included, please send me a recent picture of yourself without makeup with your testimonial.

You can also refer to the previous Blog: Understanding Your Bodyfor the signs before they manifest in your body, as they will need a longer time period to resolve.

Note: I will be working on making a Blend this year to aid digestion as well as a balm to help with menstrual pains.Let me know if these kinds of products would interest you.

Fusion of Essential Oils

Jazz Body Butter 50 & 100g

Fusion of Essential Oils

Fusion of Essential Oils that make you feel uplifted and can take you on a journey to another place.

I love to experiment with the Essential Oils I have, but don’t use enough. We often hear a lot about ingredients like Lavender and Frankincense, but not necessarily others like Lemongrass or Jasmine.

Whilst making my customer’s products, I decided to make myself something new using Grapefruit White, Lemongrass and Jasmine.The Vegetable Oils selected also keep the skin hydrated, are rich in Vitamins and help conditions like varicose veins. At the moment it’s called, Jazz Body Butter , but this could change depending on the vote from my customers.

Mine and my husband’s instant reaction was that it has an Asian fusion that smelt a lot like yummy Thai food.He was worried about this new product being the replacement of his other favourite Mint Body Butter. He loves how it smells like Aero Bar and using the product feels like smothering yourself in chocolate.The best part of using these body butters is that it melts onto the skin as soon as it’s in contact with your skin.

The benefits of using the Body Butters is that they contain Vegetable Oils that are rich in vitamins A, B, C, E and Omega 6 Fatty Acids and Lecithin. Wouldn’t you love to use a body butter that helps your skin repair as well as keep it nourished?The ingredients chosen for the 2 body butters also help with Varicose Veins which is a bonus.

I also decided to change the blend of the Hemp Hands.It was originally made with Vanilla and Macadamia, which sounds delish like an ice-cream combo.But I wasn’t sure it was the right blend for this product.What I love is asking my Customers what they think and what they would like to have in their products.And just like that – out went Vanilla and Macadamia – in came Rose, Palmarosa and Rosemary to make the Rosey Hemp Hands products.

For Kids, I made the Natural Baby Moisturising Oil. It has a gentle combination including Lavender which can be applied from face to feet. The ingredients chosen help nourish the skin as also have the antiseptic properties for cuts and rashes they may have to overcome. The other product I have for Newborn babies is the Happy Babies Hydrosol which is made using Aloe Vera and floral Hydrolats. This product helps soothe and calm skin issues like baby rashes which are common during their early years.

Sometimes, all natural products behave according to the weather:When it’s super cold, they can become hard, solid and difficult to apply;When it’s very hot, they can become soft and often runny.But being resourceful, we just need to think outside the box when trying to apply these!

Clean hands is a must for applying our products!Using your thumbnail to remove the balms is the other suggestion as it’s the best way to apply any of the Essentially Lili all natural skincare products to your face, hands, feet and body!Your thumbnail allows you to apply throughout the day without needing to carry around a spatula!!

When I’m travelling in the summer time, I have found my products can become super soft from the heat.So if you are travelling by plane, keep your Essentially Lili products with your checked in luggage as it will remain cooler in the hold. I usually keep my sample pots in my carry-on luggage as it’s small enough to reapply during the flight and prevent my skin from dehydrating.When I arrive at the destination, I put my jars and sample pots into the fridge at the hotel/apartment/resort.Not only will the products re-set, but they will be lovely and cool when you need to reapply after being out in the sun all day.

When the weather is too cold, they can become solid and hard.The solution for the kid’s product is to run the bottom of the jar under warm running water to soften the Cocoa Butter and then give it a good shake. Sometimes, the product clogs the inner tube – so I suggest that you remove it, rinse it out, dry it and then re-insert it.

The best things about all natural products is that whilst I am making them fresh, they will not be tainted with other chemical or synthetic ingredients.Unlike commercially made products which are made to squeeze out with the same consistency, all natural products that are untainted do what they should do ‘ naturally’.So when you receive your products, they will hopefully arrive quickly and without being stuck under a heater in the Post-Person’s delivery van which can make them look somewhat tsunamied!

But if they do, just remember you can put your products in the fridge to re-set them!

Tamanu & Kukui Nut Oil

Tamanu & Kukui Nut Oils

Tamanu & Kukui Nut Oils

Tamanu Oil has a uniquely natural smell and strong colour. It’s known for its ability to accelerate the generation of new healthy skin. Kukui Nut Oil has been used by the Hawaiians for centuries to protect their skin from the harsh sun, drying winds & salt waters.

Tamanu Oil (Calophyllum Indophyllum) is an oil that has been used in South East Asia and the Pacific islands for centuries. Powerful in smell and colour,Tamanu was known as their ‘oil of the gods’ as it was used to cure many skin problems. Tamanu oil has a certain lipid called calophyllolide which is not found in other oils.

Tamanu originates from Vanuatu in the South Pacific.It has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antibiotic, anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties. It is ideal for those that suffer with Acne, as well as dry, scaly skin conditions, assisting with scars, stretch marks, sun burn and abrasions.For those suffering with toe-nail fungus, age spots, rashes, dermatitis, Eczema, Psoriasis, you’ll be happy to know that Tamanu Oil is a treat!

It allows accelerated growth and the regeneration of healthy skin cells, which adds benefits to the Over 50s and scalp rejuvenation products. It makes a fabulous ingredient to help repair broken skin. For this reason, I have added this oil to the serums that need to help restore the skin. They include: Vitamin Rich Facial Oil , Diamond Era Serum , Go Molly.

Kukui Nut (Aleurites moluccans) comes from the Kukui Nut tree, which is often referred to as the candlenut tree. It grows in other parts of Polynesia, though is regarded as the State Tree of Hawaii.Kukui seeds had many purposes for the Hawaiians, though for centuries, it was mainly to protect their skin from harsh sun, drying winds and the salt waters.It is cold pressed in order to retain the highest levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Hawaiians have been using Kukui Nut Oil which is a naturally light oil that has the ability to penetrate the skin quickly. It has also been selected for treating wounds and burns, and makes an excellent choice for massaging, as it offers glide without slipping

Kukui Nut Oil is rich in essential fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic). A multi-ingredient skin products, Kukui Nut Oil is rich in Vitamins C, D and E is often added to the oil to act as a preservative.For this reason, Kukui Nut Oil has been included in the Sun Kissed Balm to help re-balance discolouration due to being sun kissed by the sun, giving the skin back its essential fatty acids.

In the previous blogs, More Vegetable Oils , I shared about Baobab Oil (Adansonia digitata) which contains Omega 3, 6 & 9 Fatty Acids as well as Antioxidants, Vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, Vitamin C, D, E & F, proteins & minerals. The high content of Vitamins A and F are vital for skin rejuvenation and anti-aging and is contained in most of these products as well.

Together the combinations of Vegetable Oils with Essential Oils have such varied benefits for treating all sorts of conditions, ailments and discomforts. I would love to hear what you have and what you love about the products I made for you and Why of course!

Essential Oils

Essential Oils

Essential Oils
are antiseptic anti-inflammatory & rejuvenates skin cells!

This is what I love
about Essential Oils.
When I studied
Aromatherapy & attended
blending courses in London
I appreciated how wonderful they really are.

I went to London for 2 weekends of blending which was attended by a group of fabulous women from all walks of life. We spent the first day inhaling, smelling, guessing, imagining and enjoying the natural fragrances of the Essential Oils variety our teacher had brought in. The range of top, middle and base notes from the Essential Oils, the way it made us feel, the smells we liked and those we didn’t enjoy as much.

Some of us left for the evening feeling invigorated, whilst some of us had to lie down from the sore head we got from of inhaling the range of Essential Oils.Ironically, when you read the benefits of Essential Oils, and their therapeutic capabilities, it’s no wonder we were feeling a mix of these emotions and symptoms.It was like an overdose of too many good things at once!

There are so many Essential Oils to choose from. There are those ‘Must Have In Your Cupboards’ like Lavender and Tea Tree Oil, others are nice to haves like Frankincense and Geranium, together with the would really love to have but they are sooooo expensive like Rose Absolute.

Essential Oils have many different properties.They are Antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, astringent and wound healing. They help stimulate circulation, can help smooth fine lines, rejuvenate cells, can unblock skin cells and promote cell growth. They are refreshing, cooling and help with hot flushes, sweating, headaches and fatigue.

With my Aromatherapy Studies, I compiled a list of my Essential Oils with the benefits they have, as well as who shouldn’t be using particular oils.Not everyone can enjoy the assistance of the Essential Oils due to their age, if they are expecting or nursing, or if they are undergoing treatment for another condition.This is why I ask about allergies, intolerances and conditions before giving products to someone.

In the Newsletter, I wrote about Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia) and how it’s regarded as the ‘Go To Essential Oil.’ Best known for originating in Provence, France, blends also come from Bulgaria, Croatia, England as well as other popular places. It has many wonderful properties and suitable for all ages.Lavender is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and with skin healing properties, reduces irritations and assists the healing of wounds. Lavender is also relaxing and can help de-stress the body and mind.It also has antibacterial properties, and diluted with vegetable oil, can be applied directly to the skin.It is gentle enough for youngsters and fabulous for the skin cell regeneration of those with mature skin!

My other favourite is Frankincense (Boswellia Thurifera) which I use in my Frankincense Face Serum for the over 30s. Frankincense comes from the Middle East. It is also antiseptic, astringent, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, has regenerative and skin healing properties.Frankincense helps improve the tone of mature and damaged skin, reducing scars as well as excess oiliness.I use Frankincense in quite a few products due to the variety of benefits it provides, though the Serum is my favourite go to boost for my skin.

Tangerine (Citrus reticulate) comes from Italy and has antiseptic as well as antispasmodic properties. It is great for helping circulation, digestion, relaxes the nerves as well as being sedative, assisting with stomach and digestive and is depurative. A fabulous inclusion for Mums who are expecting and nursing as it assists whilst they take care of their feet with Tango Twinkle Toes!

Geranium Egyptian (Pelargonium graveolens) is another of those Essential Oils that can help with so many conditions. It has antiseptic, astringent and properties for skin healing. It also regulates and balances skin sebum production, particularly if you have oily and combination skin types. It helps with broken capillaries, varicose veins, improves skin elasticity and tightens the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles. It also helps promote blood circulation and can help balance irritability and emotions.

Geranium Egyptian works well with Carrot Seed (Daucus carota). Carrot Seed has also become a favourite of mine especially to help improve the skin’s tone, capillaries and the rejuvenation process.

Both of these Essential Oils can be found in Essentially Lili Products: Men’s Aftershave Serum, Hydrating Face Balm, theVitamin Rich Mens Face Balm and Vitamin Rich Womens Face Balm, Diamond Era Balm, Sun Kissed Balm and Changing Seasons for Menopause.

Geranium is key ingredient for Geranium Hands & Body Butter. Carrot Seed is found in Oasis Balm (for Psoriasis), Renew Balm (for Eczema), Diamond Era Serum (for Over 50s mature skin) and Sun Kissed Serum (for Sunspots).

The amazing aspect of Essential Oils is if they are treated with respect, stored away from direct sunlight and not ingested without the assistance of a Clinical Aromatherapist, they can have so many wonderful benefits for everyday living.Used with a Carrier or Vegetable Oil will prevent the strength of the Essential oils burning or irritating the skin.I will blog my favourite Vegetable Carrier oils next time.

Pick Your Ingredients

Pick Your Ingredients

Pick Your Ingredients

On Saturday 11th March, Essentially Lili attended the Health & Safety information event at Volkhaus in Weidikon, Zurich.

For Essentially Lili, the Event was about being present, away from home and the comfort of helping others from my computer. I loved meeting people, engaging with them and hearing their personal stories whilst sharing my own in return.

There is comfort shared in having compassion and understanding for each other’s journey, the frustrations and resolutions whilst being able to give reassurance that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

At our table, we had a ‘Pick Your Ingredients’ exercise which allowed visitors to look at our jars filled with coloured beads and think about what is included in the everyday products bought.

Did you know that the Cosmetics Industry only has to include between 15 and 18% of Natural and Organic ingredients in order to state on the label that their product is ‘All Natural and Organic’? That means the rest of the 82-85% of ingredients can be whatever they want it to be.

Whilst there are many that claim to be making all Natural products, they can actually include alcohols, parfums, artificial fragrances, synthetic and petroleum based ingredients to complete the process of making their products.

So a product with pictures of Lavender, Olive Oil, Rosehip Seeds or Geranium flowers doesn’t necessarily mean it will be filled with those ingredients.It could merely be the parfum or fragrance of these ingredients, which is misleading to say the least.

Whilst I was studying for my Diploma in Holistic Skincare Products, one of the lessons was about the ingredients contained in mass produced products.These ingredients are in baby products,shampoos, conditioners, makeup, talc, sunscreens, hand and body lotions.

I felt quite ill after doing this subject and it only reinforced my promise not to make products that will compromise on the integrity of All Natural Ingredients contained in the Essentially Lili Range.

The Industry has been catering for people who can put all sorts of products on their skin without really worrying about what the ingredients do to their skin.But for those of us who have super sensitive skin, this is not the case.The reactions to these ingredients are often so sudden, causing redness, itching, burning sensations and nothing can seem to calm this down.

The Pick Your Ingredients Activity became an eye opener for those that came to check out and try the challenge.What did the Coloured Beads Represent?

Blue – Represents Water/ Aqua.This can cause your skin to dry out as moisture is drawn from your skin by the environment, heat, sun and cold weather.

Red – Represents Detergents called P-phenylenediamine, 4-MMPD Sulphate, Diaminobenzene, Ammoniated mercury and Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS/SLES) & foaming agents which should be avoided. The main source of absorption is via the mucous membranes of the mouth. Found in soaps, detergents, shampoos, mouthwash, hand cream, cleansers, hair dyes (Permanent & Semi Permanent) as well as toothpaste. It can be stored in the liver, heart, lungs and brain.It can damage the eyes, particularly of children. It can cause skin irritations, mutagenic effects, may cause hair loss, prolonged exposure can cause skin damage, moderately toxic by ingestion.

Pink – Represents Binding Agents like gum, waxes and fats.

Purple – Represents Nanoparticles are ultra-fine particles which possess certain properties due to their tiny size.This allows them to accumulated in the body, possibly by topical use. They may trigger potentially harmful chemical reactions. Nanoparticles include titanium dioxide & zinc oxide for sunscreen products.

Chemical blocks may be absorbed by the skin and work by absorbing the UV light. This causes a chemical reaction in the molecule of block, which may release free radicals. The skin damage can cause photosensitivity and blockers known to do this include: octocrylene, octyl-methoxycinnamate (octinoxate), benzophenone-3, (oxybenzone) and benzophenone-4 (sulisobenzone).If these penetrate the skin before it absorbs the UV photon, then these free radicals are released into the skin.It can increase the risk of cancer and contributes to skin ageing.

White – Represents Synthetics like fragrances & colours, Talc & Toluene.Phthalates listed as Perfumes/Fragrances preserves synthetic scents. There are Over 200 Synthetic Fragrances used in Cosmetics.The label only has to state ‘Fragrance’ so you have no way of knowing which of the 200 are in your product. The fragrance can mask the product going off, provide no benefits, so best avoided.These are often not listed on the ingredients but are contained in health & beauty products.These can be found in Nail polish, lacquers and soft plastics such as pet and infant chew toys.These can adversely affects male sperm, increases testosterone and oestrogen, has been found in Breast Cancer.

Talcum powder – Is chemically similar to Asbestos. It is found in many baby products, including powders, feminine powders, condom lubricants and cosmetics. As a feminine powder or spray it can cause ovarian cancer.

Toluene – Found in most perfumes, nail polish and cosmetics. Acts as an endocrine disruptor, potential carcinogen, may cause birth defects.

Black – Represents Solvents derived from Petroleum found in brake & hydraulic fluid like anti-freeze. Includes Propylene, Butylene & Glycol, Mineral oils & petrolatum.These are without odour or colour, it’s cheap and works well at combining ingredients.The solvent derived from used in brake and hydraulic fluids like antifreeze.

It can penetrate the outer layers of the skin and used as a humectant.It leaves a film that traps the moisture along with toxins & waste that would normally be eliminated through the skin.It can be found in deodorant, shaving gel, conditioner, shampoo, toothpaste, face creams, baby wipes and cosmetic, baby lotions, foundation creams, mascara, deodorants, lipsticks & suntan lotion.

It may cause respiratory & throat irritations, central nervous system depression, blood & kidney disorders.It could cause nystagmus (involuntary movement of the eyes, usually side to side but ca be up and down or circular, lymphocytosis;it can irritate the skin and may cause dermatitis & conjunctivitis. Ingestion may cause pulmonary oedema, brain damage, hypoglycaemia, intravascular haemolysis.In extreme cases, it may cause death. Possible carcinogen.

Brown – Represents Preservatives, Q15, Antiseptic, includes Parabens Includes Parabens (methyl-, propyl-, butyl- ethyl-) Proyply-Alcohol.Parabens are added to stop microbial growth and extend the shelf life of the products.Many Skincare Products contain Parabens, those with citrus seed may have been sprayed with parabens. They can be harmful if inhaled or swallowed, they can cause irritation of the skin, eyes and respiratory tract. It can cause allergic reactions on the skin, of which symptoms include itching, redness and pain.And it can affect hormones and have been found in Breast tumours . These have also been found in carbonated drinks.

Proyply-Alcohol – is an antiseptic used in cosmetics, shampoos, shaving products, waterless hand cleansers, mouthwash (25-30%) and in the preparation of bottled water, carbonated drinks and decaffeinated coffee. In the mouthwash, it has been linked to mouth and throat cancers.

Q15 – This is a preservative found in many cosmetics. It is a water soluble anti-microbial agent that has proven active against bacteria, but less active against yeast.It was found to be responsible for over 12% of allergic reactions in an American study. Not known if Q-15 can be absorbed through the skin for the carcinogen producing action to occur. It can react in the body with other chemicals to produce nitrosamines (known carcinogens.) Known formaldehyde releaser, may be a major cause of dermatitis , people who may be allergic to formaldehyde can potentially have problems with this ingredient.

Orange – Add a little bit of body Acidity regulators like Ethanloamines used with preservatives like Diazolidinyl Urea. It prevents bacterial growth, though it’s not effective against fungi. These are acidity regulators and used normally with other Ingredients like DEA Cocamide. Amines react with nitrosating agents to form nitrosamines, which are carcinogenic. These are found in soaps, shampoos, bubble bath, lotions, cosmetics, laundry detergents.It can severely irritate body tissues, can cause dermatitis and may be corrosive to the eyes.

Green – Essential Oils like Lavender, Frankincense, Cypress, Sweet Orange, Myrrh, Rose, Palmarosa, Tea Tree, Sandalwood & Jasmine are just a few of the many wonderful natural fragrances available.

Yellow – Butters & Vegetable Oils, like Cocoa & Shea Butter, Avocado, Jojoba, Wheatgerm, Baobab, Tamanu, Neem Oils. Also included are Herbs, clay, mud, flowers, leaves, roots, nuts, seeds, beeswax, milk, honey, yoghurt & fats.

If the Green and Yellow ingredients have been organically sourced, free from pesticides and haven’t been doctored during the bottling stages, they can have some amazing effects on the mind, body and spirit.Their natural scents are liberating, refreshing, calming, soothing, relaxing and uplifting.

The vegetable oils are rich in vitamins, often with natural UV protection, with antioxidants as they enrich your skin with goodness and benefits.

The butters are creamy and literally melt in your hands once in contact with your body’s temperature.
And making All Natural products that contain only these ingredients is definitely a more luxurious way to treat and rejuvenate your skin on a daily basis, without fear of what damage is happening to your body.

Pedicures & Super Dry Feet

Tango Lime & Peppermint Feet Products

Pedicures & Super Dry Feet

Have you ever just thought OMG my feet, what an embarrassing sight for sore eyes?

Have you ever just thought OMG my feet, what an embarrassing site for sore eyes?Have you ever just watched TV and scratched your dry skin off without even realising what a horrible mess you’ve made on the floor, hoping that no-one notices whilst you get the vacuum cleaner to remove the evidence?

If you have said ‘Yes’ to these questions, then don’t feel bad – I was the same but probably worse.

I went for a pampering session to get my feet pedicured. I was embarrassed to be honest, thinking that the Beautician was going to see my awful, concrete feet as I referred to them.  They were really dry with cracked skin on my heels.

The gasp I was given when she sat down to start my feet was confirmation that they were pretty bad.   She said, ‘Liil, what happened to your feet?  In all my years doing pedicures, I have never seen such dry feet!

She took photographic evidence, which has conveniently disappeared…. to be honest, you wouldn’t want that kind of information flying around if you were running for the Presidency, right?  Ironically, I wish I had kept the picture to show you the before and after photos instead!

My Beautician puts on the face mask, takes out her electric foot filer and begins sanding my feet.I felt like I was in a ‘Mr Bean Movie’. It was so embarrassing to say the least, needing so much work to find new skin underneathe.

My pedicure always took longer than normal as the Beautician needed more time to finish and paint my toe nails.Crazy huh?

A few months later, in making my Essentially Lili Products for people to try, I thought I would make something to help keep my feet nourished.  I experimented with a few different blends, trying always to keep it natural and easy to apply.The one that I loved the most was had Peppermint and was so delish to smell and felt even better on the skin.  My feet were hydrated, fresh, soft and smooth as they enjoyed the butters, oils and Essential Oils being applied every morning and night!

Peppermint Feet soon became a favourite product.  The home-spa treatment process was easy.The trick with this home pedicure was to gently remove any dry skin from the heels using a foot filer, not the ‘cheese grater’ type apparatus. Rinse off and pat dry both feet.  Using the back of my thumb nail to take approximately half a 1/2 a thumb nail of Peppermint Feet apply the product to the heels, soles, toes and tops of the feet, gently massaging in the process.   If a little bit of product was used, I was able to put my shoes on without needing to wear socks.   Too much product would just take longer to absorb into the skin in which case, socks would be needed and perhaps a lie down for maximum chillax!

It’s been over a year since I needed to have this long embarrassing pedicure take place.Now I can have a home-spa treatment every day!!

At Essentially Lili, I have often changed a blend to suit others that would otherwise be excluded from using a product.  In the case of the Peppermint Feet which is a favourite, I wanted to make something which included Pregnant & Expecting women so we named it Tango Twinkle Toes.  I think it’s lovely being pampered and included whilst expecting the arrival of your little one(s)!

For those that have stubborn dry feet, I made Lime Foot Repair which contains beeswax and helped heal the cracks, repair the damaged heels, and make that skin new again!The Beeswax works like a barrier, keeping the moisture locked in under the surface!!

This means that everyone can enjoy their home-spa treatment and as there is a product suitable for all.

Something New

Something New

Something New

Making Infusions for the first time using Rosemary and Lavender flowers.

I thought I would try making Something New especially whilst the kids are at school. I love my interruption free Production Days as it allows me to concentrate and get into an Essential Oils zone!

Today was the day for my first attempt at making infusions using the Rosemary from my garden and Lavender flowers I had collected near our local allotments. The intention for the Rosemary infusion was to use the water for cleansing the skin, whilst the Lavender flowers for gifts or decorations.

After a few days, I would add a natural preservative to ensure they wouldn’t ferment.   I would see what it smells like, feels like and looks like once it had time to infuse.

Last year I made a oil/water based lotion that failed badly.  In the Evolution & Experiments blog, I wrote how my son climbed into the fridge and knocked the product to the floor: the oil went one way and the water part another. It created such a mess, but confirmed that my attempted blend had failed.

Today I wanted to overcome this epic fail and have another attempt at making a tiny batch of a creamy water & oil blend. I used Beeswax, some natural oil, purified water and borax together with a few Essential Oils to give the lotion other benefits.  The blend was creamy though I wasn’t sure it was the finish I was after. Thee is definitely room for improvement and adjustment with the next attempt at making the oil/water blend.

We are currently trialing the products to see how they feel on the skin, using it as a deodorant.  It hasn’t irritated my skin or made me feel stinky which are both very positive signs.

As it is All Natural, as per Our Brand – containing NO Chemicals or Unnatural Preservatives, it is safe enough to use on my kids as they get older and require a little deodorising which is another bonus!

I will keep you posted on how the improvements, scents and the name we give the product when we’re done!  They will be added to our Products List.
